Nokia 3310 black. Both phones last a long time

The original cult phone of the 90s with a color screen, more elegant, lighter and with a colorful design under the same name but with an additional index: Nokia 3310 2017, which also has a dual-sim version Nokia 3310 Dual Sim 2017. It runs on Symbian OS, so it doesn't have an app store like a modern smartphone. It's really just a phone.

NOKIA 3310 PRICE: How much will it cost?

Nokia claims that it will cost about 50 euros, the price in Russia varies between 5000-7000 rubles, which seems to me a very high price. Below is a table with the best prices for Nokia 3310 (2017):

NOKIA 3310 USER EXPERIENCE: What do you like?

Of all the phones rumored to be announced at MWC 2017, none caused more buzz than the new Nokia 3310 2017. Once it was revealed that HMD – owner of the Nokia name and brand – was planning to revive the iconic shatterproof plastic block, it was everywhere.

And the rumors were true - Nokia 3310 returned safely. The original 3310 was my first phone at the age of eight, and when I picked up the new model for the first time, I felt a nostalgia that is hard to replicate.

The Nokia 3310 2017 is such an unusual device in today's market for Quad-HD displays, Snapdragon 835 processors and 6GB of RAM; But it is being updated.

This is a simple phone; One that isn't going to replace your Apple iPhone 7 or Samsung Galaxy S7, but it could be handy for an emergency. Or for a holiday, or maybe even to give to a child.

This phone is not a high performance device, taking the 3310 moniker for prosperity; It's not even a smartphone. It's just a functional phone.

Judging by the demand, phones will be in short supply after the start of sales.

There's no Wi-Fi, no 4G, no app store, no Android, and no Facebook. Instead, it has text messages and a phone book where you can store the numbers of your comrades. The 2.4-inch display is not monochrome like the original 3310, but its 240x320 resolution is about as far from 1080 pixels.

Operating system and games in Nokia 3310 2017

Like most Nokia phones, the choice of operating system is Series 30+, and it's nothing more than a desktop with a main menu. There's a messaging "app", a dialer, a contact book, an art gallery, and...wait for it...Snake (Snake by Gameloft).

The iconic game has been updated since I last played it. Instead of being limited to moving to the right, your "snake" is free to move in all directions.

I still want Nokia to keep Snake in its original format. When switching to the color version, he lost some of the magic. I may be picky, but it would be great if Nokia included a completely retro version of the game.

There's also a rudimentary browser, although since the phone only works on a 2.5G network and there's no Wi-Fi, you can only use it in an emergency. It's the Opera browser, and Nokia said the reason for including it is to enable people in developing countries to access services like Facebook.

There are a few more games available for download - they weren't actually listed - and Bluetooth is still there, too.

However, Nokia was truly proud of the phone's battery life. Leave this tube fully charged in the box and it will last a month. You can talk all day long without thinking about charging, in call mode 3310 is able to last 22 hours! You won't have this with an iPhone. The phone has a 3.5mm headphone jack for playing some MP3s, forget the adapters. Also, a regular camera and a standard large battery under the panel are built into the back.

Finally, its design. It's not an exact copy of the 3310, but it's definitely a repeat. The buttons have the same shape and there is a contrast frame around the display. It is pleasant to hold in hands and it is much lighter.

The color options are super bright - orange/red in particular has a neon glow, and the yellow option is likely to be visible in the dark.

First Impressions

A discerning eye might call it Nokia's attempt to bring back an old audience. Enticing customers to pay 50 euros for a phone that they won't even fit unless it's called 3310.

But there's nothing wrong with a little nostalgia, and many would love to spend time on their phone without Facebook, Email, and Twitter.

At the Mobile World Congress 2017 exhibition in Barcelona, HDM Global, which owns the Nokia brand, introduced an updated version of the Nokia 3310, a famous phone in the past.

According to journalists, the new phone has inherited the iconic silhouette of the original model and has a modern interface.

Figure 1 shows the Nokia 3310 (2017) model with a body of different colors. According to the creators of the new phone, the color of the case will not change over time, since the paint is part of the plastic of the case, and not applied to it.

On May 22, 2017, I purchased this phone in one of the Svyaznoy stores for 3990 rubles, made in a dark blue matte design. Let's see what this "beast" is.

Meet by clothes

The appearance of the Nokia 3310 sample of 2017 leaves ambivalent impressions. On the one hand, a thin body, a 2.4-inch screen, optimally located number buttons. On the other hand, the thickness of the rear panel is only 1 mm, and the joystick under the screen is extremely inconvenient.

If we talk about the plastic from which the phone case is made, then even by appearance it is clear that it is of low quality, although it is colored (as we were promised).

Figure 2 shows: original Nokia 3310 and Nokia 3310 (2017). So, the new phone has become smaller, thinner, and therefore lighter. Is it good? In my opinion, no, because such a device can slip out of your hand on the go.

The 2017 Nokia 3310 weighs 79.6 grams compared to the original Nokia 3310's 133 grams.

The new Nokia 3310 has a micro-usb connector on the top of the case, and a headphone jack on the bottom. On the back of the case are located: a speaker, a camera lens and a flashlight bulb.

In Figure 3 you can see the package bundle of Nokia 3310 (2017) purchased in Russia.

Phone, removable battery 1200 mAh, charger, headphones, documentation in the box. There is no separate cable for synchronizing the device with a PC, and the wire from the charger cannot be disconnected.

Let's move on to the technical specifications of the Nokia 3310 (2017).

Don't be nice, be fit

As a matter of fact, the technical characteristics of the new Nokia 3310 are no longer a secret to anyone, so I will not give them in this article, but I will share my impressions.

So, a 2.4-inch color screen with rounded corners. Okay, no doubt. Convenient for dialing, viewing the list of contacts, dialing sms-messages. Yes, the font can be enlarged.

Figure 4 shows the Nokia 3310 (2017) with the back panel and battery removed.

The ability to use two sim-cards micro-sim format, memory cards up to 32 GB. Good! By the way, on the Svyaznoy website, in the “sim card” column of the Nokia 3310 (2017) specifications, the lengthy word “ordinary” is written, and my standard sim card did not fit into the device. Fortunately, the documentation about the format of supported sim-cards is written.

Removable 1200 mAh battery. Tough decision, in my opinion. With active calls, using mobile Internet, a flashlight and a camera, it lasts for three days. Philips, for example, offers us mobile phones with 3000 mAh batteries.

2 MP camera with flash. It is completely incomprehensible to me why a camera, a flashlight, an mp3 player, an FM receiver should be stuffed into an ordinary mobile phone. Especially in a phone that is positioned as the heir to the iconic Nokia 3310.

Unfortunately, there is no infrared port. But there is Bluetooth, it works perfectly.

What does Nokia 3310 (2017) have with software?

Operating system and programs

Forgive me, but I do not know a single decent saying about operating systems and applications ... Therefore, to the point.

The new Nokia 3310 runs on the Nokia Series 30+ operating system. The interface is made in a simple style, which is good news. But I could not be happy with the software products. No, there are useful ones (notes, calendar, calculator). But there are more useless ones: a music player, an FM receiver, a voice recorder, an Opera browser, an application manager and a weather forecast. On a 2.4-inch screen with a resolution of 240x320 pixels, it is essential to browse the Internet, find out the weather forecast, isn't it?

The amount of memory of the phone is a modest 16 MB. Thanks to the support of memory cards, a modern person can download music, photos, videos to the phone. Is it just necessary? I have the same question regarding mobile Internet (GPRS).

Many of my peers, like me, enjoyed playing games on their phones. The original Nokia 3310 pleased me with two games: "Snake" and "Space impact 2". HDM Global has added one free game to the Nokia 3310 (2017), a new version of Snake. Personally, I went through it in three evenings, playing no more than an hour after work. Through the application manager, you are offered to download several games for money.

What doesn't kill me makes me stronger

As you know, the original Nokia 3310 was popular not only due to its size and weight (which ensured a convenient location of the phone in the hand), and the simplicity of the interface. This phone is rightly called a legend for its resistance to bumps and drops.

And this is exactly the problem with Nokia 3310 (2017). The results of tests for "viability" showed:

- when falling from a height of 1.5 meters to the floor, the body of the device did not receive noticeable damage;

- after being in the refrigerator freezer for 2 hours, the phone continued to work, but after 5 minutes the battery charge dropped from 50% to 5%;

- when falling from a height of 1.5 meters onto the asphalt, the body of the apparatus received noticeable damage (Figure 5).

If you recall the original Nokia 3310, then my device fell several times on asphalt, earth and snow, and continued to work normally on the street at negative air temperatures down to -15 degrees Celsius. At lower air temperatures, the battery quickly discharged.

Thus, the Nokia 3310 of 2017 is less resistant to external influences than the original due to savings on materials and a thinner case.

Of course, these days, a mobile phone can be protected from physical deformation by stuffing it into a silicone case. Nokia 3310 (2017), placed in such a case, becomes unsightly - it becomes more difficult to hit the number buttons with your finger the first time. What can we say about the joystick, which is inconvenient even without a case.

Let's summarize.

Good beginnings are common, good endings are rare.

Today, new versions of old films are not uncommon in cinema. When the supply of ideas dries up, the scriptwriters take up the shoveling of some strong or average in popularity film (series) from the last century. Well, or they write a script based on some book.

HDM Global, which owns the Nokia brand, decided to enter the market and prove that their products are significantly different from Microsoft's Lumia line of smartphones. In terms of smartphones, the company will release the Nokia 3, 5, 6 and 9 models running the Android operating system. And the decision to release the Nokia 3310 (2017) mobile phone, in my opinion, will backfire on the company.

Why? According to the company, the Nokia 3310 (2017) is released as a second phone for those who remember the original Nokia 3310. Now think about whether people who have used the legend for several years (and some still use it) will buy a new model? I don't think they will buy.

Today, the choice is clearly not in favor of the Nokia 3310 (2017). Savings on materials, manufacturing in China and Vietnam, and, as a result, the instability of the device to falling from a height, shock and negative air temperatures. Smaller than the original size and weight, which makes the phone uncomfortable to hold in your hand. Weak battery. Unnecessary apps that you can't get rid of. Oh yes! According to HDM Global, the Nokia 3310 (2017) will have interchangeable themed back panels.

Of course, the Nokia 3310 of 2017 can be used. It will seem convenient to someone because of the size and weight (not everyone likes “heavy” phones). Someone will surely buy this device as a second phone. Someone will like that in one device there is a camera, a flashlight, a voice recorder, an mp3 player, the Internet. That's just by releasing the Nokia 3310 (2017) to the market, HDM Global deliberately deprived the successor of the advantages of the original. In addition, the new Nokia 3310 does not stand out against the background of Alcatel, Philips, Samsung mobile phones existing today.

In my opinion, the HDM Global company played a trick by releasing a new mobile phone. It looks like the original Nokia 3310, but when used it turns out to be a mediocre phone. By the way, the brand owners should have released a model with a different name, because they failed to revive the legend. Will HDM Global's expectations come true? Where will their marketing move lead? We will see this very soon.

Thus, we can conclude that the models of the 2000s. and 2017 there are more differences than similarities. The original design has not been preserved, the modern version is thinner and lighter, it supports new services, the software has been replaced.

The start of sales and the cost of the updated Nokia 3310 (2017)

HMD Global calls the second quarter of 2017 the approximate date for mass sales of the updated Nokia 3310. The price will be budget, about 49€ or 52$. It is in the European market that manufacturers expect the main demand for the model, and they do not plan to bring it to the American market at all.

Start of sales of the updated Nokia 3310 in Russia. The price of the updated Nokia 3310

On May 16, sales of an updated version of Nokia 3310 started in Russia. The cost of the phone is 3990 rub., which is more than 30% higher than the price originally estimated.

Advantages of the updated Nokia 3310 (2017)

One of the reasons for the high interest in the new model is, of course, the nostalgia of users who are tired of fragile and expensive smartphones, for the times of the first, symbolizing the progress of phones. Such a marketing ploy as the Snake game also plays on longing for the past.

An undoubted advantage is the affordable price of the model. In addition, modern models are quite expensive to repair. In the event of a problem, Nokia 3310 elements are simply removed, which does not create problems for their replacement or repair.

Like the original model, the remake boasts a powerful battery, which, according to the manufacturers, is 22 hours of talk time and a month offline.

Of course, manufacturers sought to repeat the strength and "indestructibility" of the phone at the beginning of the 2000s. However, it is too early to say how successful this has been.

For "non-advanced" users, the phone's no-frills design and non-touch screen are important. It is easy to type messages on it, and the menu has a classic look. The transition through the applications is carried out in four directions of the navigation button-joystick (up, down, left and right), on both sides of which the call and hang up buttons are built.

Disadvantages of the updated Nokia 3310 (2017)

Outdated, simple interface is the main drawback of the new Nokia 3310. Even budget smartphones support the networks of the fourth generation() and Wi-Fi, which can't be said about the Nokia 3310. The model's camera is also of poor quality. If we take the 2000s, then one could only dream of such a camera, but in real 2017 this is an irrelevant solution. Most likely, the phone can count on an audience for which a mobile phone is, in the old fashioned way, only a means of communication. Users also purchase the updated Nokia 3310 for history or as a second device.

Experts are cautious about forecasts for the future of the updated Nokia 3310. Despite the active marketing campaign of manufacturers, the 2017 model can still hardly be called a reincarnation of the zero model. In addition, the requirements for mobile phones have changed significantly. Nokia 3310 was the flagship of its time, the 2000s, and whether it will be able to win the modern audience, for which the phone has become a way of life, is an open question.

Whether the updated Nokia 3310 will be a nostalgia-based marketing or a reborn legend, how much the remake will be able to repeat the success of its predecessor and outperform universal smartphones in popularity, can only be judged after sales begin.

Elite models of the updated Nokia 3310

Two manufacturers of luxury devices at once, Gresso and Caviar, announced their intention to release an updated premium Nokia 3310. Gresso hopes to keep the phone's specs, but give it a metal body made from a slab of aircraft-grade titanium, as well as molding each button out of titanium. This uniqueness will make the model premium and so durable that a fall from 10 meters will go unnoticed.

Caviar has announced that it will release two exclusive models. One is distinguished by the presence of gold elements on a titanium case, applied using Double Electroplated technology. The second is a unique bulletproof titanium engraved using the Damascus steel technique.

For information about the structure, principles of operation of subscriber devices, their speed indicators (depending on the category), as well as in general about the principles of mobile communications and its role in our lives, read in the new book Mobile communication on the way to 6G"The book also discusses issues of an economic and marketing nature: promising technologies and their areas of application, which technologies and high-tech products are promising to invest in, and which ones will become obsolete in the near or medium term? In addition, the authors consider the professions of specialists who will be in demand in the market labor, and which professions will leave the market.

The updated version has almost the same design, but is technically much better than the old one.

Nokia 3310: Price and release date

The price of the new Nokia 3310 is ~3000 rubles. It fits perfectly into the budget, for those who need a reliable dialer, there is no better option. The release date of the new Nokia is April / June 2017.

Nokia 3310: Design and screen

The weight of the updated tube is 79.6 g, it has lost weight by 2 orders of magnitude and now the pocket does not pull.

In the new version, everything is still simple - the case is made of durable plastic, the screen is not touch-sensitive and has a modest 2.4-inch diagonal. The device has support for 2 sim.

Nokia 3310: Interface and performance

The new version has remained true to its idea and works not on Android and not on Windows, but on the good old Series 30+ platform. All traditional options from the old version will be preserved: call log, contacts, sms, calendar and Opera browser. And of course, an improved snake, in which only the left and right buttons work. For this smartphone can't put root , and suddenly who wants root nokia 3310.

With the four buttons on the keyboard, you can easily control what's happening on the screen, and we found the speed of the phone to be generally good. Applications launch in a fraction of a second, and if you take into account that this is not a smartphone, but a traditional phone, then there is nothing to complain about at all.
Our only disappointment with the new Nokia 3310 was that it only works under the 2.5G standard. That is, you will not have access to 3G and 4G networks, so you can only use a stripped-down version of the browser and that's it.
Models released in some markets will be able to install simple versions of the Twitter and Facebook apps, but these weren't available during our testing.
The phone also doesn't have Wi-Fi, so you won't be able to connect to a faster network at home or work. Although it has Bluetooth, a music player and a 3.5mm headphone jack, you can listen to any music you put on a microSD card.

Nokia 3310: Battery and Camera

The old Nokia 3310 was known for its excellent battery life and we have good news for those looking for the same quality in a new phone.
The 1200 mAh power supply that comes with it is vastly superior to the original phone's 900 mAh battery. And thanks to improved battery efficiency, the new Nokia 3310 can last up to 22 hours of talk time and 31 days of standby time.
That's a big improvement over the original Nokia 3310's 2.5 hours of talk time and 260 hours (about 11 days) of standby time. You can also charge the new 3310 via a standard microUSB cable, so you don't have to scour eBay for an old charger.
The old 3310 was around before manufacturers started putting cameras in phones, but it's 2017 and it's only right that the new Nokia 3310 has its own camera, even though it's quite low.

Behind you can see a 2 megapixel camera, no flashes, no selfie cameras and other nonsense - this is 3310!

Specifications of the new Nokia 3310

Weight: 76.9 gr.
Size: 115.6 x 51 x 12.8mm
OS: Nokia Series 30+
Screen size: 2.4 inches
Screen resolution: 240 x 320
Memory: microSD up to 32 GB
Battery: 1200 mAh
Rear Camera: 2MP

The new Nokia 3310 take stock

For those whose hands are straight and in place, who warmly recalls the old days, the updated Nokia 3310 will make you feel nostalgic. An excellent battery, low price and indestructible quality are the main advantages of this model. Those who did not live in the 90s will not understand what kind of pipe it is and why there is so much noise around it.

How they find us

  • nokia 3310 new version 2017
  • nokia 3310 new

February 26, 2017 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona will be held official announcement of Nokia 3310- a modern version of the iconic mobile phone. It is not known what the modern reincarnation of Nokia 3310 will look like, but Finnish engineers should approach this project with special reverence. Out of respect for the legendary machine.

A heavy-duty, reliable phone with a battery life of several weeks is a good option as a backup device in addition to modern smartphones that only last 1 day without a charge.

The rights to release phones under the Nokia brand belong to the Finnish company HMD Global Oy, which was formed in May 2016 specifically to buy out part of the Microsoft Mobile business. HMD employs Nokia veterans, they develop Android phones, smartphones and tablets, and direct production is given to the Foxconn FIH Mobile division. About the plans for the presentation on February 26 . This is still unofficial information.

Phone Nokia 3310 went on sale in the IV quarter. 2000, replacing the Nokia 3210. This model has become one of the most successful for Nokia: about 126 million devices have been sold for all the time. Until 2003, the Nokia 3210 and Nokia 3310 models were absolute world bestsellers in terms of sales, and so far, hardly anyone has managed to get around these legendary models in terms of popularity (the ratio of sales to the global smartphone market). Without a doubt, the Nokia 3210 and 3310 are #1 in the history of mobile phones.

The most popular phone models of all time
Still used but working copies of the Nokia 3310 are sold on Amazon for a rather high price. At Russian flea markets, according to rumors, the device can be bought much cheaper.

The product page lists the key benefits of the phone: clock, calculator, memory capacity up to 10 reminders and four games: Snake II, Pairs II, Space Impact and Bantumi. The phone stored up to seven ringtones and supported SMS dialing up to 459 characters. In general, this is an absolute tank for its time, although now such functionality can be easily integrated into a toaster.

An informed source also said that on February 26, HMD Global Oy is going to introduce a couple more low-cost smartphone devices on the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system. These are Nokia 5 and Nokia 3.

On January 8, 2017, the Finnish manufacturer announced in China the flagship model Nokia 6 - a smartphone with a high-quality HD-screen with a diagonal of 5.5", a Snapdragon 430 processor, 4 GB of RAM and a 16-megapixel main camera.

Nokia 6

The smartphone will be sold exclusively on JD.com for 1699 CNY (approximately €249).

Nokia 5, according to preliminary information, will be based on the same Snapdragon 430 chipset, but with a reduced display to 5.2 "and 720p resolution, half the size of 2 GB of RAM and a 12 megapixel camera. But 50 euros cheaper - € 199.

The Nokia 3 entry-level smartphone will go on sale for €149.

Well, the reincarnation of the cult model Nokia 3310 is a completely different story. This phone will not compete with smartphones and it is not at all. This device is positioned as a modern "workhorse" - a heavy-duty "indestructible" phone with maximum battery life. The updated version of the classic will go on sale for €59 and looks like a good deal for anyone who is nostalgic for the good old days.

Probably, the main competitor for the new version of Nokia 3310 will be ... old Nokia 3310 phones. The fact is that many of them still work - and the owners are completely satisfied.

Dave Mitchell, co-owner of the Nokia 3310, 2000

One of the owners of the rarity, 49-year-old British war veteran Dave Mitchell, says that the phone went through two wars with him, he was washed in a washing machine, trampled on and dipped in ketchup (of course, not on purpose) - and 16 years after purchase, he works.

The phone needs to be charged once every 10 days, and according to the veteran, "only a madman" would change the Nokia 3310 for some other model.

Nokia, until its sad end in the possession of Microsoft, tried to produce durable, reliable and inexpensive phones. One of the latest was the Nokia 215 for $29 with a 29-day battery.

There are legends that a lost Nokia 3310 phone can be accidentally found a few years later, when an alarm goes off on it. Fans say that if NASA astronauts one day forget a few copies of the Nokia 3310 outside the airlock at the International Space Station, then in a few years they will be able to get fully working devices from the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.
