The most optimal settings for the Garrett 350. How the Garrett Euro ACE metal detector works. Euro ACE search programs

Metal detector Garrett Euro ACE, an inexpensive detector and immediately complete with a large DD coil, a rare combination of price and a coil of increased depth. How the metal detector works, what is on the screen and how to operate the detector in the search.

Instrument settings, ready-made search programs and customizable user mask. Differences metal detector Euro ACE and American counterpart ACE 350. Pros and cons in search practice.

Metal detector, American manufacturer Gareth. Developed on the basis of the legendary, and having a special reputation in Ukraine, the Garrett ACE 250 metal detector. Added averaged filtering for metal debris, an expanded discrimination zone for ferrous metals, a depth scale to the target in centimeters, and of course a large new coil.

The Garrett Euro ACE metal detector coil is one of the biggest advantages. For an inexpensive metal detector, it is rare to have such a coil immediately in the kit. In addition, this reel is of the Double-D type.

Search engine Leonid, Kirovograd. Search experience with ACE 250 for three years, with Garrett Euro ACE for second season. How does the Garrett Euro ACE reel compare to the ACE 250? The finds are seen deeper! The difference with the standard ACE 250 coil (6.5 x 9 inches, Mono) and the standard Euro ACE coil (8.5 x 11 inches, DD) is noticeable at once and on all finds. For example, 3 kopecks 1852 (a coin with a slightly larger size than average), in reality in the ground of the ACE 250 it can be raised to 27-28 centimeters, with the Garrett Euro ACE I dug it from a depth of 32 centimeters. Again, the DD coil type has its own built-in compensation for the effects of ground mineralization. A trifle compared to the same ground capabilities of the Garrett AT Pro metal detector, but it won't be superfluous.

The classic design of a ground metal detector. Garrett Euro ACE, completely repeats its predecessor ACE 250, and retains the advantages The light weight of the detector allows you to go through the whole day, and the next hand will not fall off. Easy to assemble, ready to search from a stowed state in just a few seconds. Adjustable height for the growth of the search engine. Reliable in the field and economical in nutrition.

Controlling the Garrett Euro ACE metal detector in the field is reduced to combining the selection of the search program and the adjustment of the sensitivity of the metal detector. It is very easy to parse with Euro ACE, and in 15 minutes you are already conducting a full search. The metal detector comes with a video disc that teaches you how to start a search.

Euro ACE search programs

Jewelry The program includes finds from the field of jewelry. Rings, bracelets, watches and necklaces, coins also fall into this mask.

Custom Search (discrimination) program that can be fully customized by the user. By default, the settings of this program are the same as for the Coins program. User settings are stored in memory when the ACE 250 is turned off, and available the next time the ACE 250 is turned on.

Relics. Search program that excludes metal debris containing ferrous metal. But metal groups like lead and bronze have a response. Designed to search for ancient artifacts.

Coins Search program for finding coins.

Zero (All Metals). The program is configured to search for all types of metals. And even in All Metals mode, the Garrett Euro ACE metal detector can be classified according to the type of tonal response. For example, for ferrous metal this is a low sound, for coins it sounds high.

Talking about the work of the Garrett Euro ACE metal detector, one cannot fail to mention its American counterpart, the Garrett ACE 350. The Garrett ACE 350 metal detector is an American version, the Garrett Euro ACE is intended for the European market.

The differences are small, but there is also a big nuance for Ukraine. The Garrett Euro ACE metal detector has a wider range of ferrous metals on the discrimination scale. The depth scale to the target in the Garrett Euro ACE has a designation in centimeters. Coin program settings differ.

A nuance on the Garrett ACE 350. The ACE 350 metal detector is not accepted for warranty service on the territory of Ukraine. Not officially imported.

Unfortunately, there are not always comrades who can sensibly and clearly explain how one metal detector differs from another, what is the main thing in the search, and in general, what determines whether a person with a swag or leaves the field empty. I think it makes no sense to talk about the characteristics of the device, since this information is available on the vast expanses of the Internet, but if you want and can, you can visit any store of treasure hunting topics and personally read the manuals and instructions available there.

The truth is that the ACE EURO metal detector is as simple and reliable as a "tank". Later in the article I will consider that this simplicity is only apparent, but in principle, it is precisely these moments that determine its popularity. By the way, please note that the DD coil is already installed on the EURO model, which makes this metal detector even more interesting.

ACE EURO advantages

So, if you read the instructions, it becomes clear that it is enough to turn on ACE, select the desired mode and you can perform ... Yes, it is, it is this simplicity (no need to tune the device from the ground, no need to set the sensitivity right away, no need to understand the discriminator on your own) that determines the moment that this device is so popular.

Familiarization with the instructions: everything is simple and concise

On the other hand, in the process of searching, new opportunities and tricks open up. For example, given that ground tuning occurs automatically, it is advisable, when turning on the device, not to immediately start waving it, but to proceed as follows:

  1. Place the device with the coil on the ground
  2. Switch on the device
  3. Wait until it stops beeping (as a rule, two indicator sounds are heard)
  4. Start searching or tinkering with settings

Of course, this may not be done, but from the point of view of logic, it is better to do just that: after all, the device needs to somehow be adjusted and determine the parameters of the soil. Perhaps I'm wrong, but it's not a pity to spend a couple of seconds on this manipulation.

ACE EURO search settings

We look further - this is a discrimination setting. I have already said that over the years the search engine switches to searching for all metals, and this device allows you to do this. You can safely select the search mode on all metals and “enjoy life”. The thing is that at first it is better to check all signals (both color and black), because this is the only way the learning process takes place.

On ACE, you can choose the dixrim mode that you need, you can even experiment: put coins in a pile, in a pile, put it on an edge. Experiments will show that sometimes even colored targets can ring in black - take note of this. By the way, even more advanced and well-known models of metal detectors are guilty of this. Only experience will help here!

If your metal detector is constantly beeping, there are many ways to eliminate the beeping sound. This sometimes happens when a person has installed a more serious coil. Try to lower the ACE sensitivity by 1-2 divisions, and life will improve.

The next point, which I have already written about several times, is the swing speed of the device. If the posting is too slow, the device may not "hook" the find, if it is too fast, something may be missed. The "golden mean" is important here. How to find it? Again, take different coins to the fields with you, bury them, and test.

But here the reliability will be slightly in doubt, since things that have lain in the ground for tens of years are oxidized, around them a "cloud" is formed, which also affects the detection. Therefore, do not rush to immediately dig out the find, move the coil over it at different speeds, memorize the result.

Someone says that there is a backlash at the junction of the ACE rods. Yes, it happens. But it is treated quite quickly - a couple of turns of electrical tape in this place on the assembled bar, and you can walk for at least days, everything will be fine.

When buying a metal detector, in particular the one we are talking about, make sure to immediately strengthen the armrest. Oddly enough, but on some devices of this series the armrests last for years, and on some devices they fail quickly enough, they just break. It is clear that in the event of a breakdown, everything can be repaired, make a homemade armrest, buy a new one, and so on. But it is better not to bring it to this.

Now about the batteries. ACE instruments are sensitive to batteries losing their charge. In this case, the device, roughly speaking, starts glitch... Keep this in mind, keep a spare set of batteries, or the search will turn into a nightmare. By the way, there are devices that "squeeze" the batteries to "0", while this does not affect the operation of the device in any way.

There is also a nuance - these are headphones. In fact, this paragraph can be applied to all metal detectors, but with regard to the ACE series, especially. Firstly, you can catch a weak signal, and secondly, since these devices do not have a volume control, ACE “screams” quite loudly, and the person seems to unmask himself, which is not very pleasant. Therefore, when buying this metal detector, the main thing is to immediately buy headphones.

What more can be said? It should be noted that with a standard coil, the ACE 350 has an excellent pinpoint, but it is better to double-check the find from both sides, as there are times when the device shows “color” on one side, and if you enter from the other, it already gives in black.

Of course, you can write something else, you just don't remember everything at once, everything is already on automatism. Another thing is important: this metal detector is a serious device. And whoever said anything, but it was the availability, simplicity and quality of this metal detector that allowed it to become the most recognizable, a kind of workhorse.

And even if it lacks some settings, somewhere it loses in depth, but in general - ACE EURO is a worthy machine with which you can enter this hobby, enter for a long time. And many search engines, who, by virtue of their preferences, having accumulated knowledge and experience, have acquired another metal detector, keep ACE as a spare device, since it is simply a pity to give it away - after all, this is a reliable comrade who is used to working in the most difficult conditions.

This detector also has the ability to customize the search. You can customize the Euro Eyes recognition for any type of object you are looking for. The lower indicator scale consists of 12 segments. As you already understood, in each of their modes, those segments that are filled with black will be recognized. For example, in the "No Separation" mode, all segments are filled, which means that any metal object will be automatically recognized. Using the "discrim" and "elim" buttons, you can create a specific combination by adding or removing search objects in any of the modes. There are two ways to set the object recognition settings. You can use the “Identify” button by moving the cursor and selecting specific segments of the upper scale to enable or disable the identification of specific objects. Then you need to click the "exclude" button to enable or disable the selected segment, depending on your choice for a specific purpose. The second method is to bring an object close to the search coil and turn on or off its identification. Make sure that the upper scale points to the desired object, then click the "exclude" button to turn recognition on or off. Coin mode is ideal for finding coins in European conditions and soil types. Customization Mode allows you to create your own unique treasure hunting mode. Any settings that you make in the "individual" mode will be saved in the metal detector's memory even after turning it off and on again. It is important to remember that each time the detector is turned off and on again, the settings will return to their original settings in all modes except “individual”. The Euro Ace model has more segments dedicated to the definition of iron objects. This additional property leads to greater accuracy in identifying and finding iron objects, and iron objects can often drown out the signal from other more valuable objects. It is very important to choose the right mode and set its individual settings in order to exclude the finding of iron debris and at the same time not to weed out any valuable items. To demonstrate this, let's take a look at how this coin will be identified next to an iron nail. In this case, Euroeis operates in a “no separation” mode, without separating iron objects from others. Separately, the coin will be identified in the ninth segment. The iron nail will be identified on the second segment. This iron containing object can be excluded from the definition list by clicking the “exclude” button next to the first two segments on the left. Since we turned off the first two segments of the iron objects, the nail will no longer be detected by the audio signal. But in doing so, the coin and the nail, combined together, will lead to a mixed result, and will be determined in the third segment. As a result, we manage to find a valuable item, due to the fact that the signal from the coin and the nail is determined higher on the scale than the nail separately. Let's talk about the button below the sensitivity label. This special property will allow you to search in any type of soil. Of course, you will want to set the sensitivity to maximum in order to detect objects as deeply as possible. Garrett engineers created Euro Ace for maximum sensitivity. But it may happen that due to some conditions the sounds will abruptly interrupt each other, as in this case. This can be avoided by lowering the sensitivity. 3 factors can cause your detector to behave this way. Strong electromagnetic interference, abnormal minerals in the soil, and large amounts of metal debris. If you run into this situation, make sure to drive the coil at the same height, if you raise the coil a couple of cm, it should make a difference. Always start your search with the standard sensitivity settings that will work with most soil types. You can increase the sensitivity as much as the soil conditions allow. Sensitivity set above a stable rate may make it difficult for you to detect deep objects. Keep practicing the mode and sensitivity settings until you fully understand all the properties. If you suddenly want to return to the original, standard settings, press and hold the power button (pwr) for about 5 seconds, or until you hear a double beep. Pay attention to the battery sign in the lower right corner of the screen. It is filled with 4 dark segments to indicate that the batteries are fully charged. Since all Garrett metal detectors are created so that they consume batteries very economically, 4 new AA batteries should be enough to operate from 20 to 40 hours. When only one or two segments are darkened you should be ready to replace the batteries with new ones. To get the batteries, you need to gently pull the cover and remove it, this will allow you to get 4 old batteries and throw them away. The label on the detector will help you determine the correct polarity required to install new batteries. Make sure the batteries are inserted correctly and firmly. After you change the batteries, put the plastic panel back in and slide it up, with a sound like this. When putting the detector aside for more than one month, remove the batteries from the detector. Headphones are a very useful addition for any metal detector they come with. They are especially effective in noisy environments where you may simply not be able to hear the sounds emitted by the detector. The headphone jack is located on the right rear side of the panel. The headphones have a volume control.

SET SEARCH MODE(discrimination modes)

The EuroACE detector has five pre-programmed modes. Choose the mode that best suits the objects you hope to find, or use the CUSTOM mode to create your own personal settings. In every dir Minor changes to the established discrimination patterns have been programmed to optimize hunting for such typical targets.

This does not mean that the detector will only search for jewelry while in JEWELRY mode. It is simply an indication that a given discrimination pattern is most suitable for detecting most jewelry objects. On mode JEWELRY detector still will find coins, relics and other non-jewelry items.

JEWELRY Mode - this mode is designed to search for jewelry such as rings, bracelets, watches and necklaces. Three pixels of ferrous metals are disabled to ignore most nails and small iron pieces. Some of the "iron" pixels are left on to minimize the masking effect of the target(see page 23 - more about masking the target). In JEWELRY mode, the LCD screen looks like this:

In JEWELRY mode, the left 3 notches are disabled.

www.garrett-hobby.ru

CUSTOM Mode This mode can be programmed by the user as desired. By default (factory settings), this mode is the same as

COINS mode. Using the DISCRIM and  /  buttons, the user sets the discrimination parameters himself. These settings will remain in the memory of the device even after switching off.

(For how to use the DISCRIM and  /  buttons, see pages 15-17.) Custom Mode can be used to find specific metal objects.

Coins Mode (COINS)- this mode is designed to search for all types of coins and allows you to exclude garbage items from the search, such as metal debris and foil. Four pixels of iron objects and one foil mark are excluded in this mode. European coins, from ancient to modern, can appear anywhere on the Target ID scale due to their wide variations in size, thickness, and metal content. Therefore, for the search for European coins, minimal discrimination is desirable. It may not be possible to prevent the detection of some bent lugs from beer cans and pieces of metal plates. It is to be expected that some scrap metal, such as aluminum cans, will be dug up. For COINS mode, the discrimination reference will look like the picture below.

In COINS mode, four pixels under the iron and one pixel of the foil are disabled.

www.garrett-hobby.ru

Relics Mode- Designed to detune signals from small iron pieces and detect valuable targets in the lower conductivity range, such as lead, brass and bronze. Removed two pixels of iron, and the scale looks like this:

In RELICS mode, the two left discrimination pixels are disabled.

ZERO mode. The discrimination selection for this mode is selected to find any type of metal and should be used when you want to find all metal objects or when the material of the desired object is unknown. As you can see in the illustration below, all 12 pixels are included - this indicates that no metal objects will be excluded.

Switch to ZERO mode if the target signal is illegible. Such a signal may mean that there is debris next to the desired object.

In ZERO mode, all 12 pixels are turned on.

The EuroACE detector has an increased number of discrimination segments for ferrous metals. This additional resolution allows for more precise control over ferrous metal (iron) discrimination. In the example shown below, you can see how an iron object can "mask" the signal of a nearby desired object. To prevent this from happening, use the DISCRIM and

 /  to select the desired Discrimination Level for rejecting iron debris (for example, a small nail like in Figure 1). With the minimum level of discrimination of iron, your detector will continue to detect instead of a coin and a nail (see Fig. 2), but "masking" will not cause the loss of a valuable object. See the setup examples shown on the next page.

Iron objects like the nail shown above can sometimes disguise a valuable item. If too much discrimination is set, the valuable item may be overlooked. Read page 23 to learn how to set the correct iron discrimination to eliminate the nail in Fig. 1 and notice the valuable item in Fig. 2.

www.garrett-hobby.ru

Example: Preventing target masking with increased number of ferrous discrimination segments.

In the picture above, EuroACE is operating in RELICS mode, with two iron discrimination pixels disabled. The nail shown in Fig. 1 on page 22 is registered above the third pixel. These ferruginous objects can be excluded from finding by using the button

 / , turning off the third pixel from the left.

In Fig. 2 the same nail lies on top of a valuable item - a coin. Since the three pixels of the iron are disabled, the nail itself would not be seen, however the two objects have joint conductance at four pixels. Thus, the valuable item is seen due to the joint conductance, which is higher than that of the discriminated item (nail) alone.

Air test

You should conduct an air test to become more familiar with the operation of your detector. To conduct air tests, you need:

1. Place the search coil on a flat, non-metallic surface more than a meter from any metallic object.

2. Select the ZERO mode.

3. Carry a variety of metal objects(coins, bottle caps, nails, etc.) past the coil at a distance of 8-10 cm. Your metal detector will identify the object by sound and image.

4. Perform this test in all modes available on your detector. Observe sounds and images on the LCD that appear in different modes.

5. Record your bench test results and refer to them when you search for real.

www.garrett-hobby.ru

Once you have determined how your test objects appear on the Target ID in air tests, test them in soil. Bury your items at the marked depth to form a "test field". Note how different targets are read depending on whether they are flat in the ground or at different angles.

Keep accurate records or leave superficial marks to indicate your test objects and their burial. Try checking these goals again a few months later, after the ground has settled, during periods of severe drought, or after very heavy rain. Note any changes to how these goals are defined.

The following illustrations show the EuroACE detector in ZERO mode, scanning objects in bench tests. (Note: this

"Air tests" carried out in a clean environment. The Target ID scale can be affected by soil, as well as by conductivity, magnetic

permeability, thickness, size, shape and position of the object.)

Tips for beginners

If you are new to metal detecting, start in sandy and loose soil to make it easier to learn how to use a metal detector and accurately detect and identify targets.

For the best search results, keep

the search coil at a height of approximately 2-3 cm parallel to the ground at all times.

Walk slowly, moving the coil in a straight line from side to side at a speed of about 1 m per second. Move the searchcoil forward about half its length at the end of each sweep.

After the end of two search seasons, I learned Zen in the definition (discrimination) of pure signals when instrument search with ACE Garrett 350 Euro. What, in fact, I want to tell you now and here. Naturally, these are just my personal and private guesses and conclusions, but after their application, the number of extra pits decreased significantly, and the number of interesting finds (oddly enough increased). Maybe due to the fact that time is not wasted digging corks and wires, and it is possible to go through and check a larger space.

In fact, my device is quite simple, but extremely reliable and stable. For two years, as they say, he had been training his hand and this spring he began to fully understand the signals of the device. You say: "And what is there to understand in it? There is a clear discrimination scale with the same clear segments." But read this article and you may change your mind. Oh, and by the way, you can try to check my speculations on other types and brands of metal detectors, because the principle of operation is almost the same for everyone.

It is natural and quite certain that the best discriminator is a shovel, there is no dispute here. But this is for those who have a lot of time and effort))). We are not looking for easy and simple ways, therefore, we carefully invent methods and ways of additional discrimination of signals.

How do you define a clear (accurate, clean) signal? How you want to know and be sure that you are digging an interesting object, and not a cork, wire, nail ... Let's in order and on this subsequent story.

Let's say you caught a signal located in the "coin" sectors of the discrimination scale of your ACE Garrett 350 Euro metal detector (or, probably, another one). To dig or not to dig? And let's check this signal somehow, if it remains coinable, then we don't think about it. Well, if after the following steps you doubt the availability, then the "best discriminator is a shovel" will be able to confirm this to you.

I have divided the methods of additional discrimination into two groups:
- physical;
- instrumental.

Let's start with physical... Well, first of all, try the signal again (trivial, but this is the first and obligatory, everyone does it, but you need to write it down). Then try changing the speed of the coil wire, try turning around and checking the signal in the other direction. Is the signal still clear or are there already doubts? We continue our research. Try changing the height of the coil wire above the signal, how will the signal behave? Does the change in depth that your MD indicates match the change in the height of the coil wire? It is also important how the signal will behave at the edge of the coil (front or rear), a clear signal at the edge of the coil remains clear, and the signal from the "shmurdyak" will go to other segments. All this is done very quickly, but it gives us an additional 5 (five !!!) ways to discriminate the signal.

Well, a little instrumental methods. Change the "feel" up or down, and once again see how the signal behaves. Here we must not forget that with a decrease in sensitivity, a deep signal can give off to other segments of the discrimination scale, but this, again, can turn out to be, on the contrary, useful for determining the actual depth of objects. And now it's time for the pinpointer. First and foremost, the depth determined by "ICQ" in the search mode and in the pinpointer mode must correlate. Those. if in the search mode it shows you 15-20 cm, and in the pinpointer mode it shows 5 cm, then this is definitely not a coin, but a large piece of metal. Again, if you are interested - of course, dig, but you will already know what you are digging. Another very important point when discriminating with a pinpointer is that if you cannot find the center of the target in pinpointer mode, then there is definitely a large object in the ground. And, yes ... after searching for a target with the pinpointer, re-check the signal in the search mode. Often the target is "magnetized" from the pinpointer (or changes its potential) and can go to other segments of the discrimination scale.

Something like this ... And you said "... a clear discrimination scale with equally clear segments ..."... Above, 9 (nine !!!) additional ways of target discrimination were shown.

Whether to use them or not is always decided on a case-by-case basis. Of course, there is a possibility of missing something with additional discrimination, but if you decide to dig only pure signals, then this list will help you.

Good luck with your instrument search! I look forward to your comments on this and other articles.
