Windows 8 disk locked recovery. Reset the password on the hard drive. Removing the password from the hard drive

Question: The drive on which windows is installed is blocked

After installing the OS Windows Server 2012 R2 and applying updates, Windows stopped loading, writes "the drive on which windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again."
Which update is responsible for this error?

Answer:

Well, excuse me if I got a little in the wrong place, although I don’t see the exclusively server (related only to server systems) in this problem. This problem is general, the same for all Windows operating systems. And if I were the moderators, I would move this topic to the "Microsoft Client OS" section.

You need to read what advice refers to, and not mindlessly copy-paste commands, not knowing what they generally refer to and why they are needed.

That's the thing, knowing...
Is it really to you from the description of my case, what, where, how and when this "Disk on which Windows system, blocked. Unlock the disk, try again" it is not clear that the use of these commands is pointless, because with what restores one part of these commands, I am fine, and the second half of the commands, if applied to my case, will simply kill everything else.

It seems to me that the problem is somewhere at the level of loading the driver or the system kernel, or the registry is corrupted.
And there really is no disk lock itself, it’s all Windows, it seems, based on the problems that have arisen inside it.

Question: When I try to restore, it says "The drive where Windows is installed is locked" - Windows 10

Hello, dear forum users, I ask for help in solving my problem. In general, after another windows updates friendly suggested to reboot, after which the message missing operating system appeared on the screen on a black background. Attempts to roll back the system from the recovery disk were unsuccessful, since in all attempts the message "The drive on which Windows is installed is locked" and the like appeared. I have Asus laptop k53 costs Windows 10. Thanks in advance.

Answer: there is a recovery partition at the end, is it some kind of old one?

Question: Create a boot disk of an already installed system

Something I'm completely confused. Tell me please!
Installed from distribution Windows disk xp. Everything works great. Added only a few more drivers.
How can I now create a boot disk with this operating system along with drivers and what would be the same bootloader?
The ISO source file contains the following folders: DOCS, DOTNETFX, I386, SUPPORT, VALUEADD
And files: autoran.inf, bootfont.bin, readme.htm, setup.exe, setupxp.htm, sn.txt, win51, win51ip, win51ip.sp3
That is, a complete "gentleman's" set, so to speak.
But when I create an ISO file from an already installed system and burn it to a disk, I get completely different folders and files!
And the disc won't load. I tried both NERO and UltraISO - the same effect. What's wrong? The type links explain how to make a bootable disk from the distribution. And how to do it from an already installed system, I don’t understand this.

Answer: Guys, this is certainly understandable. I even agree and made a copy of Acronisom. But it remains with me, so to speak, "sports interest." But how do bootable ISO files. After all, after copying to disk, it starts and installs Windows. No matter how I tried, the boot disk did not work. There, besides the xpboot.bin bootloader, do you need to enter something else?

Question: Restoring Win10 on a laptop. The disk is locked. Reinstall from scratch? HDD->SSD

Hi all. The problem is this:
I recently bought Asus n554lj and immediately updated Win10, put the ssd in place of the HDD on sata3, and transferred the HDD through the adapter to the place of the drive. Samsung SSD 850evo 120Gb. Samsung's disk cloning program didn't work, so I used Macrium Reflect. Windows got up on the SSD, but recovery was impossible. I searched for information on the net and found advice on what to transfer to SSD system no updates. As a result, I try to go back to the HDD and roll back to the factory settings of Windows, the computer reboots and goes into rollback mode, but when I click the rollback option, the system writes "The drive on which Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again later." I found advice to boot from the boot disk and change something, but I didn’t have any disk for my laptop, the license was immediately on it.

What do you advise? Is it generally worth creating a bootable USB flash drive using Microsoft and installing Win10 on the SSD from scratch? I have already removed the key from the system.

Thanks for the advice in advance. Soon I'm waiting for a replenishment in the family and I would not want to spend 2-3 thousand progers to solve the problem. I respect their work, but I have to find a solution myself. In addition, I would like to put the system in such a way that everything works and I tested everything myself, it is interesting to delve into the problem and all the consequences.

When I try to reinstall Win10 from a flash drive, I get an error
efi/microsoft/boot/bcd
0xc000000f
I understand that the bootloader is damaged.

Answer: Yeah. Delivery: Russian Edition. Just why the heck I had to accept the License Agreement, I don’t understand ...

On the topic: Briefly understood. Due to the fact that the HDD was converted to the PRT format, apparently it is precisely because of this that Bios does not include it in the list of boot options. Although the BIOS sees the disk along with the SSD on the connected ysata.
By the way, to install Win10, as I understand it, a flash drive is enough even for 4GB (it was written "requires at least 3GB"). I used 8GB.

I decided all the questions, Windows is fully on the SSD. Thank you. There are no more problems.

Question: No system selection (Windows XP or Windows 7) when starting the computer

The hard drive is divided into two partitions. Windows XP is installed on one partition, and Windows 7 (x32) is installed on the second partition. When the computer was turned on, there was a choice of XP or 7. Everything worked. I decided to change the bit depth of Win7 from x32 to x64. Reinstalled Win7. After the rearrangement, the choice between WinXP and Win7 disappeared. When you turn on the computer, only Win7 appears and after a while it starts up. In the "Boot and Recovery" settings, you can select only Win7. WinXP is missing from the list. The partition on which WinXP is installed is not affected, all user and system files are present. Reinstalled Win7 by formatting the partition during installation. Help to understand what is the reason and configure the launch with the choice of system.

Reinstalled Win7 by formatting the partition during installation. Help to understand what is the reason and configure the launch with the choice of system.

You need to figure out which partitions are on the disk. Most likely both are the main ones.
Probably first Win XP was installed, and after it 7ka, while the same XP partition remained bootable (active). And the 7-ki loader added XP to its menu.
When you reinstalled 7, the line XP disappeared, since the 1st seven was loaded from this section.

Help to understand what is the reason and configure the launch with the choice of system.

It is necessary to repeat what was done before - install XP and after that, using the same boot partition, install the desired 7-ku on another partition.
This method is called dual booting. This eliminates the need for a boot manager, but has the disadvantage that it works when reinstalling systems.

Question: Windows operating system is not installed

Good day to all!

On my computer, two operating systems were installed on the hard drive: Windows 8 and Ubuntu 14. Grub was installed as bootloader. The hard disk, of course, was divided into several partitions - under windows, ubuntu, under ubuntu swap, maybe something else ... Everything worked fine, but a couple of days ago I decided to install Windows 10 (perhaps the same problem would have been when installing another Windows, but I put exactly ten), when selecting and partitioning disks, I deleted all partitions and the system cannot be installed - the error "I cannot create a partition or find an existing one."

Okay, I crawled all over Google in search of a solution to this problem, I already figured out the log file (by the way, it contains the error "I can't find a disk on this bios-based computer), and in the BIOS I set all the settings I could, and this way and that, and disk formatted through DISKPART, divided - no use, the same error.

I tried to install different windows (Windows7, 8, 10) - none is installed, but it installs perfectly and divides the Ubuntu disk - right now I'm sitting from it. I tried to leave an empty partition through ubuntu and simply install Windows into it - the same error - "I can't create a partition or find an existing one" ...

On the disk, as I recall, before installing the system (this dozen) there was a small partition that could not be deleted in any way (probably some kind of system partition of the disk), now it is gone. Perhaps there is a problem with it? And how to restore it, if possible?

In the end, I’ll also say that I tried to install this top ten on another HDD(on the same computer) and there, after formatting, it not only did not install, but the disk in the selection disappeared altogether (the Windows installer does not see this disk), only the "load driver" button is available, while ubunta is again placed on this disk and works great.

How do I install Windows on my drives? Any advice guys. I've been fiddling with this for two days, I'm already desperate

Message from menscool

Neither Windows nor Ubuntu itself finds the installed ten on the first ...

Apparently, they simply do not know it (as, for example, oink "does not understand" a more modern BCD loader and diligently overwrites this "misunderstanding")

One of the members of the VKontakte group of our site encountered a certain malfunction of the operating system. After turning on the laptop, the following message appeared: “Preparing automatic recovery”. Further, after selecting the keyboard layout, two possible actions “Diagnostics” or “Turn off the computer” appeared on the screen. In the diagnostics, it was proposed to make another choice: “Restore”, “Return to original state” and “ Extra options". When trying to “Restore” a message appeared: “The drive on which Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again."

It does not make sense to analyze the remaining points in this article, since, having eliminated the malfunction “The drive on which the Windows system is installed is blocked. Unlock the disk and try again”, we will solve the problem of loading the operating system. And for this you need:

1) Boot from installation disk with the operating system, click "System Restore", where in the parameters select "Command Prompt". AT command line enter Bootrec.exe, the utility will display help on the available command line switches. Then, in order, enter:

a) Bootrec /fixmbr - the utility writes the master boot record (Master Boot Record, MBR) to the system partition. This option is used to resolve issues related to master boot record corruption. The existing partition table is not overwritten in this case.

b) Bootrec /fixboot - the utility writes a new boot sector to the system partition. Usually this parameter is used when the boot sector is damaged or replaced with a non-standard one.

c) Bootrec /rebuildbcd - launched with this key, the utility scans all disks for installed operating systems. Found OSes are listed, from which they can be added to the configuration data store Windows boot.

2) But in most cases, the problem may be that the controller driver has been updated hard drive, which is either not digitally signed or simply fails UEFI validation. UEFI security Boot at the hardware level can block the launch of an unverified driver, and if it is a hard disk controller driver, then the OS will naturally not boot from it. Therefore, you need to roll back the driver update or disable it in the BIOS settings for UEFI security Boot.

3) And finally, if our computer is under warranty, we can safely take it to a service center, let them try to figure it out there.

In this article, I tried to troubleshoot “The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again." If you know other solutions to the problem, please leave your comment.

If the article "The drive on which Windows is installed is locked - solving the problem" was useful to you, please share it with your friends

In an attempt to get some information about this situation, the author of the article came across mean and simply copying each other messages from computer forums. A more or less truthful explanation was found on the Microsoft website (https://support.microsoft.com/ru-ru/kb/2826045/en-us), however, in English. Its author explains the appearance of the message "the drive on which windows is installed is locked" by the following user actions:

  • Upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8;
  • Intel Smart Response Technology (SRT) was included to optimize computer performance when switching from a conventional hard drive to an SSD drive;
  • The user tried to Windows recovery 8 using WinRE's built-in "Refresh your PC" or "Reset your PC" tools.

In such cases, a message may appear stating that the disk with the operating system installed on it is locked. In non-Russian operating systems, this message looks like “The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again."

Causes and Solutions

Microsoft support says that one of the reasons for this message is the absence of the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (Intel RST) driver required for Intel technologies smart response. Without it, this technology will not work, since it essentially relies on its use. In this case, technical support advises, if it is possible to download Windows 8, contact the PC manufacturer and get instructions on disabling this technology.

If there is no way to enter the initial boot screen, then you should:

  • Use any Live version of WinRE or WinPE recorded on optical media or external USB media;
  • Using the command line, download the latest version of the Intel RST driver, install it in WinRE WIM (named winre.wim on the disk). To do this, use the instructions from the sites http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh825173.aspx and http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744355(v=WS.10 ).aspx . After dismounting the WIM, try to boot into WinRE again and restore the system using the same Refresh Computer or Reset PC options.

From other messages on the forums, it can be noted that the reason is to update the hard drive controller driver, which does not have a digital signature or does not pass verification in UEFI-Bios. At the same time, the UEFI security Boot function can block its launch at the hardware level and prevent the operating system from booting. This issue is solved by disabling this feature in Bios.

There are also reports that this phenomenon occurs after the next windows updates 8. And it is impossible to make a rollback due to the lack of loading the operating system. There are also tips to use the bootrec /fixboot command - some have achieved this solution to the problem.

There are also many other suggestions to fix this problem, for example, many laptops have the ability to restore from the built-in Recovery section, but there are no positive responses to this recommendation.

This topic is another evidence of the “dampness” of Windows 8, which makes developers nod at manufacturers, and manufacturers nod at developers.

In modern digital world there are a lot of different operating system errors faced daily by users living in different parts of the world. Today we will consider one of them - an error in which the hard drive, or rather its logical partition, with the operating system is blocked.

The situation might look like this:

The user display shows blue screen death and we lose any possibility of interacting with the computer until the disk is unlocked. The error text says: “Restart your computer. The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unblock it and try again.”

  • The presence of malware on the computer.
  • Software conflicts resulting in corrupted system files.
  • Internal hardware failure.

Unfortunately, it is difficult to name the exact causes of the problem, but we can help you learn how to fix it on Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10. The guide is universal, so the instructions will be simple and understandable for users with different operating systems.

Good afternoon, dear blog readers! Today we will talk about not so frequent, but important. More than once I encountered such a problem as the password set on the hard drive or BIOS. Probably many do not quite understand, and perhaps do not understand at all what I mean. Now I will explain in more detail.

BIOS password

Bios is software, located in a read-only memory (ROM), engaged in self-testing of devices and searching for a bootloader. Naturally, the functionality of the BIOS is much wider than described above, but we will not dig deep, but consider directly on the topic of our article. The BIOS password is set to avoid manipulation by third-party people.

How to remove bios password

The set bios password does not allow you to get into it, and in this case there are three options for solving this situation: by removing the CMOS battery on motherboard, move the CMOS jumper (jumper) on the motherboard in the opposite direction (not provided in laptops) or simply close the jumper contacts.

And the last way to remove the BIOS password using the BIOS Password Removal for Laptops online service. If you know the password and it's just inconvenient for you to constantly enter it, then you can turn it off by going into the settings.

HDD password

Here the purpose and function of the password is slightly different. If in the first case you simply cannot get into the BIOS, then with set password on the HDD you will not be able to download operating system. And this is the inability to use a computer or laptop for its intended purpose.

How to remove password from HDD

If we considered three options to solve problems with the BIOS, then in order to remove the password from the hdd, I have only one for you, all the same bourgeois online service. I have not described above how to use this site. To unlock a password you don't remember, you need to enter it incorrectly three times (for example, 1234 or whatever). After the attempts made, a code will appear in the window, enter it on the website http://bios-pw.org/ and in return you will receive a code to reset the password from the hard drive.

How to put a password on a hard drive or bios

Set these passwords to protect data and from various manipulations. Every BIOS has this feature. Current computers and laptops have a Security tab where you can set passwords. More about this in the pictures.

Setting passwords for BIOS and hard drive

Set Supervisor Password– set Administrator password
Set User Password– set User password
HDD Password- hard drive password
Password on boot is used to enable or disable the password on boot.
