Metal detector "Minelab Safari": owner reviews, specifications and features. Minelab Safari or Garrett AT PRO. Comparison Safari X Terra 705 comparison

Today we will look at two multi-frequency metal detectors from the same manufacturer - Minelab. These models are produced by an Australian company that has earned the trust of customers for its unsurpassed quality and excellent performance. Everyone can find their own device in the range of detectors. So, what is the difference between Minelab Safari and X-terra 705, what are the similarities - let's try to figure it out.

Design

The Minelab Safari and the X-terra 705 have the same three-boom design. The differences begin in the structure of the cord - in the 705 terra it is twisted around the lower shaft, while in the Safari it is safely hidden inside the shaft. The battery compartment of the 705 grater is located to the left of the control unit, powered by 4 AA batteries (fingers); Safari has a battery compartment under the elbow, 8 AA batteries that fit in one slot. In the Minelab X-terra 705, the control unit is removable and equipped with a convenient backlight. Both devices are equipped with DD coils, only the grater has a waterproof 10.5 ”coil at 7.5 kHz, and the safari has an FBS 11” butterfly coil.

Each of the presented devices has its own advantages. So, Minelab x-terra 705 has advanced ground settings + ground tracking function. Safari has a setting for the degree of trash in the area - if you select a high trash mode "high", then the metal detector better separates targets that are close to each other. The choice is yours!

The popular Australian metal detector X Terra 705, known in Russia as the "Terka", belongs to the class of professional equipment for finding almost any metal object. Often, it is used to search for coins and treasures, but the device is capable of detecting metal ores and individual nuggets. In this case, the model works at three different frequencies and quite effectively separates the objects of the search from the ground, regardless of their size and the saturation of the soil with metal particles.

Operating principle

The principle of operation of the Minelab X Terra 705 is based on the selective division of all possible search options into 28 segments, each of which can be included in its own program. The metal detector supports 6 such sets at the same time. If there is an object under the coil of the detector, to which the device is currently tuned, the corresponding segment is highlighted on the display and at the same time a sound signal is emitted.

After responding to the target, the Terra 705 displays information about the type of find and the distance to the object. The rest of the time, here you can find out about the settings of the equipment and the charge of its batteries. It should be noted that the battery capacity of the device is enough for 15-20 hours of operation, or for 2-3 search "shifts".

Metal detector complete set

The X Terra 705 comes with parts such as:

  • device control unit;
  • three elements of the composite bar;
  • universal dual-band DD coil 10.5 inches with an operating frequency of 7.5 kHz (sometimes replaced by a single-band nine-inch modification);
  • protection of the corresponding coil for the X Terra 705 (9 "" or 10.5 "");
  • collapsible armrest, consisting of 2 parts (upper and lower);
  • bolts and washers with which the control unit, coil and armrest are attached;
  • Velcro fasteners;
  • Instructions for the device and warranty card.

DD Coil Capabilities

The 10.5 "(26 cm) DoubleD coil, which is supplied by default with the X Terra 705 metal detector, is designed to work effectively on soils with a high degree of mineralization. Thanks to the special DoubleD technology (two frequency ranges) and the optimal dimensions of this part, the territory can be surveyed much faster than other equipment.

The high sensitivity of the coil allows it to find even the smallest objects. At the same time, it is completely sealed and can even submerge under water - although the manufacturer does not recommend doing this often and for a long time. And the low weight (only 0.38 kg) practically does not make the device heavier, providing work with it for several hours in a row.

Device advantages

Among the advantages that distinguish the X Terra 705 from other models, it is worth noting the main ones:

  • The presence of the ground tracking mode, complementing the already available three options of settings (manual, automatic and "beach").
  • The added function of determining the approximate dimensions of the found object.
  • Screen backlighting, allowing you to work with the device in any conditions - both in the dark and in the bright sun.
  • Adjusting the signal volume is a function that is especially important when working without headphones.
  • Multi-tone, allowing you to use for search either 4 tones (for the main types of objects), or all 28 at once (by the number of segments).
  • The ability to use several search methods. For a nine-inch coil, the crossover technique is most convenient. For the universal DoubleD model, the amount of overlapping sweep is minimal, and you have to move it much less often.

  • the presence of a geological exploration mode, for which a special coil with a frequency of 18.75 kHz will have to be connected to the device.

Features of work

An important factor affecting the efficiency of detecting metal objects is the interference present in the composition of the soil - metal debris, minerals, clay soils and even bricks. An inexpensive, high-quality metal detector like the X Terra 705 can be tuned manually or automatically to separate out such interference and increase the likelihood of finding a truly valuable object.

It is recommended to enable automatic adjustment of the device for inexperienced users who have just started working with this model. Professionals can use their experience to avoid missing targets. This manual balancing sometimes produces a more efficient result, although it is time-consuming.

When working with the device, it is advisable to follow the manufacturer's recommendations:

  • Use metal detector Minelab X Terra 705 while wearing headphones so you can better focus on your tone. If this search method is not possible for some reason, the signal volume should be adjusted to a value convenient for the user.

  • In order to isolate itself from third-party electromagnetic interference (other metal detectors or high-voltage wires), it is worth turning on the Noise Cancel function, which is available for both manual and automatic modes.
  • The setting of the threshold tone of the response of the equipment (in the range from -5 to +25) should be set at the limit of human hearing. It is not worth making the signal too loud because of false responses. And the choice of quiet settings can lead to the skipping of detected small objects. For beach search, the parameter is set to negative.

Comparison with analog metal detectors

When comparing Terra 705 with devices similar in functionality and efficiency, the following features of this device can be noted:

  • Lightness due to which it is carried with one hand for a long time. The detector is over 100g lighter than the Garrett AT PRO and Tesoro Tejon models, and 200g lighter than the Bounty Hunter Time Ranger.
  • DoubleD technology allows fewer sweeps during the search process, as a result of which the energy consumption per unit of time is reduced, and the metal finder can travel a longer distance.
  • Terra 705 is assembled faster than analogs and has a removable control unit, which increases the convenience of transporting the device.
  • Unlike most other models, the screen is not overloaded with unnecessary data. All information can be viewed with a few extra taps. This characteristic can be called both a plus and a minus, depending on the user's requirements.

It is worth paying attention to the fact that the Tesoro Tejon metal detector allows you to get equally effective results. However, the model requires a lot of experience in order to adapt to having only one tone and no display. Indeed, instead of a screen, Tesoro has several toggle switches typical for devices of previous generations. However, many treasure hunters with extensive experience are attracted by this very familiar feature.

At the same time, learning to work with the Garrett AT PRO is easiest compared to other devices in the review. And the Bounty Hunter and Minelab models are roughly in the middle in terms of user adaptability.

At the same time, user reviews left on the X Terra 705 report a small drawback that a number of similar devices do not have. When finding an object, many treasure hunters try to turn off the device in order to save battery power. But if the Garrett, Tesoro and Bounty Hunter models can be easily turned off in such a situation, the X Terra will have to rest on the ground or use the other hand (which usually carries other equipment) to do this.

If you yourself are a scientist or just an inquisitive person, and you often watch or read the latest news in the field of science or technology. It is for you that we have created such a section where the latest world news in the field of new scientific discoveries, achievements, as well as in the field of technology are covered. Only the latest events and only trusted sources.

In our progressive time, science moves at a fast pace, so it is not always possible to keep track of them. Some old dogmas are crumbling, some new ones are being put forward. Humanity does not stand still and should not stand, and the engine of humanity is scientists, scientific figures. And at any moment, a discovery may occur, which can not only amaze the minds of the entire population of the globe, but also radically change our lives.

A special role in science is allocated to medicine, since a person, unfortunately, is not immortal, fragile and very vulnerable to all kinds of diseases. Many people know that in the Middle Ages, people lived on average for 30 years, and now 60-80 years. That is, life expectancy has at least doubled. This was influenced, of course, by a combination of factors, but it was medicine that brought a big role. And, for sure, 60-80 years for a person is not the limit of an average life. It is possible that someday people will step over the 100-year mark. Scientists from all over the world are fighting for this.

In the field of other sciences, developments are constantly being carried out. Every year, scientists from all over the world make small discoveries, slowly moving humanity forward and improving our lives. The places untouched by man are being investigated, first of all, of course, on our home planet. However, work is constantly taking place in space.

Among technology, robotics is especially striving forward. The creation of an ideal intelligent robot is underway. Once upon a time robots were an element of fantasy and nothing more. But already at the moment, some corporations have real robots on their staff that perform various functions and help optimize work, save resources and perform hazardous activities for a person.

I would also like to pay special attention to electronic computing machines, which took up a huge amount of space 50 years ago, were slow and required a whole team of employees to leave. And now such a machine, practically, in every home, it is already called simply and shorter - a computer. Now they are not only compact, but many times faster than their predecessors, and everyone can figure it out. With the advent of the computer, humanity ushered in a new era, which many call "technological" or "information".

Remembering the computer, do not forget about the creation of the Internet. This also gave a huge result for humanity. It is an inexhaustible source of information that is now available to almost everyone. It connects people from different continents and transmits information with lightning speed, something like that was impossible to even dream of 100 years ago.

In this section, you will certainly find something interesting, exciting and informative for yourself. Perhaps even someday you will be one of the first to learn about a discovery that will not only change the world, but will turn your consciousness.

In a commentary on the Minelab Safari (which is in the box with the new metal detector), Alexey pushed in like this - A stupid model for this money. Better Explorer SE or E-Trac ... I don't think so. And my impression is still based on its predecessor, the Minelab Quattro MP. But judging by the number of Safaris that I see around (this season there is already one, this one), search engines do not like this detector very much.

Comparison, photo report of Minelab Safari and Garrett AT PRO metal detectors in the field. The safari was recently bought by our fellow cop, the second device is mine. What's good and what's not. I would buy such a metal detector instead of my Gareth AT PRO.

Compare

Based on the practice of searching, both metal detectors are in the same category - ground metal detectors, a collapsible S-shaped rod, the upper location of the control unit.

But the Garrett AT PRO has a clean candy bar that contains everything: screen, controls, power (4 AA batteries), headphone jack. In Minelab Safari, the power supply (8 AA batteries or rechargeable batteries) and the headphone jack are located separately from the unit, at the top of the boom.

I think that the armrest in the Garrett AT PRO metal detector is not the best (for example, it’s in the fall, it’s uncomfortable in a thick jacket). But even with the Minelab Safari, after an hour of searching with it, the armrest was not fond of, uncomfortable.

Most of all I liked the armrest because it is soft and “fits” the hand. Holds without any straps super (holds your hand securely and does not need to unfasten anything when putting the detector aside).

Control

It so happened that I started with metal detectors Garrett, and now I have the main one from the same manufacturer. And this "kinship" has formed some habits. For example, to have access to all control buttons with the same hand in which I have a metal detector.

Minelab Safari is a little more convenient than the same ones (although the experts claim that this is a matter of habit). And yet it was not without "inconvenience" ... In almost all metal detectors, the central button is the Pinpoint mode. In Safari, this is the entry to the menu. And the pintpoint is on the side)) At first I was confused.

I reach out with my finger until the power is turned off. As the Young Seeker commented (comparison) - you don't have to constantly turn off ... I get tired faster than the power in Terra runs out. This is true, but when you turn off the device while digging a hole and passing through thickets, it still saves batteries.

And with such a habit, my kit is enough for more than one exit.

Barbell

Would you buy?

Would I buy myself a Minelab Safari metal detector? Considering what I know about mine and the Minelab X-Terra 705 (it would be the third option in this choice).

I have two big complaints ... The pinpoint button on the left is overpriced (in my opinion), the VDI output is much poorer than that of the Minelab Explorer SE PRO (which Safari belongs to).

On the plus side, it has a convenient construction (and reliable), an excellent reel, and in comparison with the Explorer SE it is quite easy to figure it out. Maybe also multifrequency, but in the field, Safari did not receive a special advantage. At least the number of finds was commensurate with the nearby X-Terra 705 and AT PRO.

At such a price, I would quickly write off Safari and then hesitate only between.

P.S. Pay attention ➨ ➨ ➨ Bomb theme -. Look, you won't regret it.

↓↓↓ And now let's move to the comments and find out the expert opinion. Scroll down the page ↓↓↓, there are reviews of diggers, MD specialists, additional information and clarifications from the authors of the blog ↓↓↓

And nothing can convince me, comrades, treasure hunters. Of course, many can argue - they say, if you haven't tried anything else, how can you say that. However, I will disappoint you, perhaps, because I managed to dig with at least four metal detectors and I can already judge objectively.

So how much is a 705 grater right now? In the region of 28,000 rubles, if you take a new and used one, you can get it out for a democratic 22,000 rubles, and it will be guaranteed. It is enough just to crawl through the treasure-hunting forums, now, when treasure-hunting has become a conditionally permitted hobby, many sell their "guns", and we, those who are not going to give up their positions, can seize the moment and buy an excellent metal detector for less money, sometimes saving can reach 5-6 thousand rubles. Here's a new coil to boot))

In general, I somehow disagreed in my thoughts, let me tell you what I think about this metal detector and how I liked it in comparison with other MDs.

Start…

I dug for the most part with Minelabs - graters 34, 305, 505, safari, I also drove it to E-truck for a very short time. He himself began to become a digger with the usual 34 grater back in 2007, now it has already been discontinued and has been replaced by the 305 - the device is already improved, but also at the level of the initial MD. However, there are already two frequencies and this is a plus for those who like to play around with coils with different frequencies.

Further, while I was walking with a 34 grater, my friends managed, due to their finds, to rise to the purchase of a second MD (at first they had one for two), and with the money they saved they bought a 305 grater. We did not particularly notice the difference between 34 and 305. or rather, they did not notice at all. Because we did not use all the options that made the 305 cooler. And this is a fact))

I also continued to drive with a 34 grater, and my friends dug up coins during the season, there were a couple of impressive finds (the price tag of sales of 4-5 thousand rubles - for us then these were super-finds). So for the season they got up and decided to sell the old 34-grater, add and buy 505 Minelab. I tell them - what for, dig a little more and buy 705 terra. But they were already burning with a purchase, the new season was on the way and they threw away all my lamentations and took the five hundred and fifth model.

Taken 505

Compared to the 34 and 305, the Minelab 505 was just a breakthrough - there were many more finds, and the standard DD coil also played a significant role, as it seems to me. Cheaper graters were equipped with mono coils and they really lose to powerful DDs. Throughout the third season, they wiped my nose on the finds, I managed to "dig" only the one who had been walking since 305. They had coins, crosses and other scum from their finds, but the number of their finds upset me and plunged me into despondency, because I felt, that I miss a lot of coins with my old 34. But I also collected the dug up coins, cleaned them and roughly figured out how much I could sell for. I saved up right away for Terra 705 - that was my dream. Comrades, however, bombed seriously, sometimes they raised up to 15 royal coins for leaving. With a simple metal detector, it was possible to achieve such results only by arriving at an un-dug fair)) As you know, you can't find such places, or rather you can find them, but you need a serious SUV and purchased old maps.

Safari 28-frequency

In the meantime, the cop absorbed us so much that our friends began to travel more and more often and hooked up another friend to our hobby, who without further ado immediately bought a used Minelab Safari on the occasion. For the money, something came out at the level of the new 705, I found it so well on the treasure hunters forum. And I was lucky with the purchase - the device is like new and is under warranty. Everyone would have such lots))

At first we thought that right now he would find all our coins, but the person was a beginner and got used to such a complex device for a long time, after all, "Safar" (a cut-off version of the exp) is a 28-frequency unit and it will be difficult to immediately understand it. Another thing is when you step by step pass from device to device, increasing its level and class. So the guys with 505 Minelab very often "made up" on the finds of a digger from Safari. But this is only at first, as soon as he sensed and understood his MD - we all realized that our MDs are just toys compared to Safar. However, it is a fact that it is difficult to understand it even after 5 trips.

Everybody took Minelaba 705

And the next season, my two friends sold all their metal detectors, added money from the sale of coins and bought themselves two Minelab 705 detectors at once - one new and one used. Well, looking at them, I also parted with my 34 grater, added money from the sale of coins, also sold non-ferrous scrap for 5,000 rubles (after each cop I brought from 200 grams to 2 kg of copper and brass, I put it all in a bucket, which in a couple of years the cop became complete).

In general, all of our energetic trio have now become the owners of the best metal detector - Minelab 705. We got used to it quickly, apparently the habit of all Minelabs affected. The only thing - the polyphony was embarrassing, but, as it turned out, the signals are much clearer with it than with the three tonalities of simple models.

In the photo - the nephew tries himself as a digger:

Be sure to use polyphony in the settings, with it the signals give off "new colors" or something, there are a lot of facets of sound, which sometimes have a decisive effect - the signal decides to dig and get something cool and interesting. Such was the find of the folding, which was deep and beep, I don’t understand how, but there was something in the sound that made me dig in and pick up an interesting find.

Diggers' Frequently Asked Questions:

Is there a difference between 505 and 705 Minelab?

Our answer is that there is and what else, we strongly advise against taking 505 if you are thinking of continuing to mine for treasure. Although the devices are very similar, the 505 obviously loses in terms of finds / search characteristics, and those who say that they have the same “brains” - let them test their brains first. Therefore, we advise you - immediately save up for 705 model, we checked it on own experience, there are more finds with him.

Who is cooler - Minelab 705 or Minelab "Safari"?

Our answer is that first of all it depends on the operator, at first we made Safar. But when his operator understood the device, it became clear to all of us that the 28-frequency unit was any better than the flagship of the X-Terra series. many times they checked the signal with both MDs at once, and when the 705 gave hell knows what, "Safari" clearly said that there was a coin under the reel. And he was right. However, once again we draw your attention - it may well turn out that you "morally" will not live up to the moment when you fully understand Safar and leave the cop. But if you go all the way and aim at the result and good finds, the 28-frequency will definitely be steeper than the 705 Minelaba. after all, the discriminator will be abruptly there and many signals in which we are not sure, Safari will clearly say - what is under the coil. It has been checked by us more than once or twice. So this is a cool machine, but it takes time to understand it.

What's cooler - Minelab 305 or ICE 250?

We also dug ICQ, somehow on the field we met other diggers, they were all with ICQ, and we were with Minelabs. So we decided to test and compare. What can I say? We got tired of digging iron, rusty in general gives off to polish, and if with graters we could taste that this is "rusty" iron, and not ferrous metal thanks to the depth gauge (iron that gives off to nonferrous metal always shows that the find is on the surface). Askami, we could not figure out how to distinguish the rusty iron beating the coin signal. Of course, when coins came across, ICQ 250 was not wrong. our verdict - if you want to "dig up", but save on a metal detector - feel free to take ICQ 250, it solidly "fills" coins, but it is difficult to distinguish between other color and rust. You will find coins, but you will dig up "to your heart's content." In our opinion, with Minelab 305 you have more chances to find coins and spend less effort, very often you don't need to dig anything, while you have to dig with ICQ. These are our conclusions after 3 hours of detecting with ICQ.

Why is Minelab 705 better than others?

Price - for your money, this is the most understandable device for a beginner. There are, of course, all sorts of AKA Signums, Deuses, which are also powerful, but oh, how difficult it is to understand them and it takes time, Deus, by the way, is also 12k more expensive. And since we started with the Minelabs, we decided to continue this tradition.

The depth of detection - by sight, really hits deeper than 505, although many say that 505 and 705 are the same devices, with the exception of an additional option. However, I dare to assure you - it is not so. As soon as they began to dig from 705, there were simply many times more finds, the most important thing is that they began to find more small coins, this is real - pennies of the USSR, scales - we did not find them before, but now there are finds, and there are a lot of them.

Minelab 705 cuts off coins from iron better, the most important thing here is to listen, so if you can - dig with headphones. Best of all, when you are driving out with a company, otherwise when you are in the "ears" - then they can kick in the head from behind.

This MD better smells the coins on the edge, at least so it seemed to us, and we have had a detecting experience since 2007 - count it for 7 years already. Over the years, many coins have been found and only a couple of small cladders.

We do not use additional options such as "geo-prospecting", we tune the device to the ground manually and sometimes, when there is a lot of broken or iron around, we set the automatic tuning. And still we don't leave without finds. Moreover, in 3 years of detecting with this MD, they learned to understand it so much that 8 out of 10 you can guess what is under the reel.

In the photo - "digging grounds":

Which coils are better to use and how they performed in our tests

My comrades took one low-frequency coil for themselves, you need to somehow use more frequencies in the search)) Now one of them runs at a frequency of 18.75, and the second at a standard 7.5 kHz. There is not much difference in depth, but the fact that the low-frequency coil sees small targets and coins on the edge better is a fact. We repeatedly checked the same target with two different coils - the low-frequency really sees better all the coins that lie at a depth of 20 cm. If it is deeper than 25 cm, then it starts to lose the standard 7.5 kHz. Therefore, we search with a low frequency on plowed fields, and with a regular coil - when we are exploring a new place, village or tract.

As for me, I am completely satisfied with 705 Minelabych, with him I have more finds at times, and if before it happened that I left the cop without any finds at all, now this does not happen, a couple of coins even on the knocked out location can be found. The device is very simple and straightforward, it does not take much time to study and understand. Arrived at the place, tuned the MD and kicked the club. Everything is clear and understandable, if a coin gets under the coil, you will dig it out one hundred percent. For my money, this is the best metal detector for me, I strongly recommend skipping all the initial models and taking the 705 right away - thanks to this tactic, there will be many finds at once, and there will be no gaps at all. And during the search season, you can repeatedly beat off the cost of a metal detector. Believe me))
