Review of ZTE Blade V7 and its comparison with Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016). ZTE Blade V7 Lite: reviews and specifications Zte blade v7 front camera

Appearance

As they say, "they are met by clothes." Consider a box. The packaging design, in my opinion, has changed and become better. In the box you can find a power supply with a cable for connecting to a computer, a manual and a paperclip (a key to get the SIM card tray).

The body of the smartphone is metal, in the specifications it is indicated that it is made of aluminum. The case is non-separable, which affects its strength. The assembly is "on the level" - nothing creaks and does not play. There are plastic pads on the top and bottom of the back which appear to be for a better connection.

The size of the phone is the most standard: 5.2 inch screen, with a frame of medium width. If the fingers are not short, then you can safely control with one hand.

The screen is protected by 2.5D glass - smooth edges are pleasant to the touch. Apparently, the glass has a good oleophobic coating, as a result of which prints are easily erased with a napkin. Otherwise, the front side looks standard - three touch buttons at the bottom, a speaker with a camera on top. By the way, the touch buttons are backlit. There is also a message indicator in the upper left corner.

The display has Full HD resolution, which gives a high pixel density. Good viewing angles are provided by an IPS matrix made using OGS technology (without an air gap between the touch glass and the matrix). The smartphone uses MiraVision screen technology, which allows you to adjust the brightness, contrast, saturation and color temperature.

The lock button and SIM tray are on the right, while the volume buttons are on the left.

At the top is a connector for a headset or headphones. The bottom end is "copied" from the iPhone - speaker, microphone and charging connector.

Pleased with the back panel - it is matte and does not slip in the hand. Remarkably, prints on it do not remain.

The touch screen supports five simultaneous touches.

Comparison with samsung galaxy J5

The ZTE Blade V7 smartphone can be compared with the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) according to several criteria (price, appearance, specifications). At retailers, they cost almost the same. How does the ZTE device differ from the “more branded” Samsung?

Appearance

Dimensions and appearance are almost the same. But it's all about the details here. For example, ZTE's 2.5D glass looks prettier due to rounder edges. ZTE does not have such a branded cover, unlike the Samsung cover.

Screen

The matrices of the ZTE Blade V7 and Samsung Galaxy J5 are made using different technologies. If ZTE uses IPS, then Samsung uses sAMOLED. Both technologies have their pros and cons. If you do not go into technical terms, then the difference is insignificant - basically the color reproduction is slightly different. The Super AMOLED on the J5 is a little more economical and produces quality blacks, while the IPS produces "true" whites. Brightness and viewing angles are about the same.

Other

The software is almost the same: Android 6 and a few branded apps.

If we compare the characteristics of V7 from J5, we can see:

  • J5 has only 4 cores, unlike V7 which has 8 cores.
  • The front camera of the V7 has more megapixels (8 versus 5).
  • The battery is 600mAh smaller than the J5.
  • The screen is different. The Samsung screen is made using SuperAMOLED technology and has a resolution of HD 720p.

Results

In terms of performance and appearance, Samsung loses. Both devices work quickly, and in “cool” games they slow down, but in practice the J5 has some advantages: the J5 camera works much better (photos are better under the same conditions), GPS works stably and quickly, autonomy is longer, there is NFC (wireless payment).

Software part (OS and installed applications)

Controlled android smartphone 6 with a shell from ZTE - MiFavor. Everything works smoothly and quickly, there are no slowdowns or freezes. Android is almost no different from many other devices. The smartphone has standard applications (calculator, gallery, Google software suite), several applications from ZTE (Support, Backup copy) and a couple useful applications(antivirus and memory cleaner app).

In the settings, you can swap the side touch buttons and enable control gestures.

The windows with application requests to the internal resources of the phone (camera, memory, messages, etc.) are a bit annoying. Some applications refuse to open or perform some functions until you add permissions for the application in the settings. But this is rather a feature of the sixth Android, which is done for the security of the OS.

Photo

The phone ZTE Blade V7 has two cameras: 13 megapixels - main and 8 - front. The cameras are standard for smartphones, but the photo quality is terrible. The front camera does not have autofocus and is only for video calls.

The main camera takes good pictures only in very good lighting. In room lighting, noise appears, autofocus begins to "miss" and photos may be blurry. In the settings, you can change some parameters, but the quality will not get better. To get a good picture you need to "get confused".

So we will not dwell on the camera, we will only give a few photos with an attempt to photograph a cat in a room.

Hardware

ZTE Blade V7 is powered by MediaTek MT6753 chip with Mali-T720MP2 video accelerator. These are eight cores with a frequency of 1.3 GHz, RAM 2 GB.

AnTuTu Benchmark v6.1 gives out about 3FPS for a normal game, more than 30FPS is required.

Antutu Benchmark v6.2.1 shows 33,217 points.

The game Asphalt 8 comes with slowdowns, the phone is clearly too weak for this game. There are no problems with the video - FullHD videos open and play without brakes.

The iron is enough to calmly use any daily activities (calls, chat in social networks, search for information in the browser) and play not very demanding games. New "cool" games, if launched, will slow down.

In games, the smartphone noticeably heats up, it feels like somewhere around 35-40 degrees.

Connection

There are no problems with communication, the phone works confidently in 4G. You can install two SIM cards in the device (one is a micro-SIM format, the second is applied). A combo slot is used, where instead of microsims, you can put a microSD memory card.

Problems showed up when trying to use GPS - he did not want to show my location. Maybe I got a defective smartphone, but judging by the reviews it has a weak transmitter, even though it supports GLONASS technology.

Memory

In a smartphone of 16 gigabytes, 10.5 GB is available to the user. This is enough for all daily needs, as well as for several games or movies. You can use a memory card up to 128GB instead of one SIM card. You can connect a "flash drive" via an otg cable.

The smartphone has 2 GB of RAM.

autonomy

The ZTE Blade V7 has a 2540mAh battery or almost 10Wh. In normal mode (WiFi, calls, social networks, video), it will be enough for a day or two. If you watch a video on YouTube, then the smartphone will sit down in 7-8 hours.

The device charges in two hours.

Results

According to the characteristics of the smartphone does not stand out. But it is different from other machines. middle category design - it is pleasant to hold it in hands.

pros

  • Metal case;
  • Android 6.0;
  • Cute design;
  • Oleophobic coating of the display, the device does not collect fingerprints;
  • Smooth operation of the MiFavor shell;
  • High-quality display picture.

Flaws

  • Combined slot for SIM cards;
  • Weak autonomy;
  • Weak GPS signal;
  • Weak cameras.

Blade V7 was presented at one of the world's exhibitions. This version of the device went on sale with a cost of 17 thousand rubles. The V7 Lite modification described in the article pleases with a reduced price - 14 thousand. Both gadgets are considered average with good characteristics.

The ZTE Blade V7 Lite Gray phone, reviews of which are the main part of this article, has a metal back panel, a flash for the front camera. He distinguished himself with a good matrix and the presence of a fingerprint scanner. The remaining parameters do not impress buyers much. More on this later.

Characteristics

Reviews of the ZTE Blade V7 Lite make it clear that the device is made of a combination of glass and metal. Works on the operating system "Android" of the sixth version. Firmware from Google. Operates with 2/3/4G networks. The processor works with 4 cores. All of them have a frequency of 1300 MHz. RAM is 2 GB, internal storage - 16 GB. As for wireless interfaces, there are bluetooth modules, as well as Wi-Fi networks. The phone works with a standard jack for charger and connection to a computer. Built-in 3.5mm headphone port. The screen is 5-inch, created using IPS technology. Has a resolution of 720×1280. The camera is excellent: 13 MP + 8 MP. Built-in flash.

The phone has proximity and light sensors. The ability to work with the GPS module is available. The battery is lithium-ion, its capacity is 2500 mAh. Non-removable type battery. The device weighs 135 grams.

Contents of delivery

The package includes a phone, a network adapter, USB cable type headset. There is also a film on the screen and a warranty with operating documentation. The set is standard, although many buyers in the reviews of the ZTE Blade V7 Lite Silver smartphone are happy with the presence of headphones.

Design, dimensions, controls

The main competitors of the described model are the following M3s mini and Highscreen Tasty. They have almost the same characteristics. The same can be said about design. Back panel it is made of metal, and the inserts (both upper and lower) are plastic. The sides are strong, the "face" of the device is made of reliable glass. Buyers note a strong similarity, there is a feeling that the developers have lost their imagination or that all gadgets are from the same assembly line.

The phone itself looks neat. According to the reviews of the owners of the ZTE Blade V7 Lite, we can conclude that it fits perfectly in the hand. Assembled in at its best, there is no backlash, no feeling of punching. The colors of the plastic are well chosen. The case is less than 8 mm thick, and it also weighs a little for a gadget with a 5-inch screen. Therefore, all owners note that the device is compact and easy to use.

The smartphone is sold in two colors: gray and gold. The gadget is coated with an oleophobic substance, but it is ineffective. The prints are too visible, the finger glides over the panels very easily.

There is a plastic bezel on the back. It is a shock absorber that plays its role when the device falls on the side face. The border has a polishing, the surface itself is matte.

There is a flash for the camera on the front side, which allows you to take selfies. Here you can also notice several sensors, an indicator of battery charge and notifications. Speaker received good volume, intelligibility at an average level. This can be seen when reading reviews of the ZTE Blade V7 Lite smartphone. On the same front side there are keys to return to the previous menu, to the desktop and call applications. All of them received a backlight, for which users thank the manufacturer separately.

The bottom panel has a charger input and a microphone. On the top there is a headset jack, and on the left is a rocker to change the volume level. The latter is made of metal. On the right side are the keys to turn on the phone and slots for SIM cards.

There is a flash and a camera lens on the back. The latter protrudes slightly from the body. Round fingerprint sensor. Works slowly but clearly. There are two special holes on the bottom panel. They are covered with mesh. On the left is a speaker, on the right is a dummy for symmetry.

Display

This device works with a screen size of 5 inches. Users claim that it is covered with anti-reflective material. HD quality device resolution - 720×1280. For such a diagonal, this indicator is considered normal by buyers, judging by the reviews of the ZTE Blade V7 Lite phone. There is a pixelation process, but it is difficult to notice, the picture is clear.

The brightness of light shades reaches a maximum parameter of 250 cd / m 2, which, at the expense of dark ones, is 0.30 cd / m 2.

The viewing angles of this smartphone are good. They have a clear picture. The color rendering is at the best level, there are no distortions. The matrix is of good quality. The owners note that the contrast is good, but the brightness is not enough.

Ergonomics

Due to the fact that the display is small, and the side edges are convenient to use. Buyers in the reviews of the ZTE Blade V7 Lite 16 GB note that you can reach the opposite corner with one hand. It lies beautifully in the palm of your hand. The back panel does not slip much, and there are simply no sharp corners. Compared to other phones that have all the buttons on only one side face, here the unlock key and the volume rocker are on different surfaces. The owners like this approach: it is difficult to make a mistake with the level of the button location, and you can change the sound even without taking the phone out of your pocket. The main thing is to remember which key is on which side.

Battery

This model works with a non-removable lithium-ion battery. The battery received a capacity of 2500 mAh. The manufacturer did not provide any official data on the operating time without recharging, so we will draw conclusions based on the comments.

Buyers in the reviews of the ZTE Blade V7 Lite Gold/Grey notice that the device does not stand out much from its competitors in terms of its “survivability”. In active mode with the 3 / 4G network turned on, the smartphone will last 7 hours. During this time, the owner will have time to talk for half an hour, 60 minutes. use the camera, watch the video for the same period and spend several hours in in social networks, mail. If you want to play a game at maximum brightness and high volume, then you should expect the phone to run out of power in an hour. In playback mode, the video will last up to 6 hours.

It takes about 3 hours to charge from the charger, about 6 hours from the computer.

Communication options

Unfortunately, as far as communication issues are concerned, there is nothing interesting here. Users in reviews of the ZTE Blade V7 Lite notice that the GPS works well, but its sensitivity is still not ideal. The only thing that pleases the owners is the support of the 4G network at different frequencies.

Memory and memory card

The device works with 2 GB random access memory. For a device of this type, this indicator is considered good. But many ZTE Blade V7 Lite users notice in the reviews that for 14 thousand you can find a better option.

As for the built-in storage, its maximum figure is 16 GB. Only 10 GB is available to the user. shell and system applications occupied as much as 6 GB, which many owners noticeably did not like. You can use a memory card with a maximum capacity of 32 GB. But then again, for the price, there are plenty of better options out there.

Camera

The device has two modules, like any of its rivals. The main one works with a resolution of 13 megapixels (received autofocus), the front one - 8 megapixels. The latter has a wide angle function.

In the daytime, in good weather, the rear camera will perform perfectly. This is reported by buyers in reviews of the ZTE Blade V7 Lite. Detailing is excellent, colors are transmitted as naturally as possible, the dynamics of photos is preserved, you can blur the background. Focus is fast and accurate. Of the minuses, buyers point out that there is a noticeable strong blur in the corners. The owners also do not like that artifacts and various noise distortions can appear in poor lighting conditions.

There is a flash for both the rear camera and the front camera. The first reaches a distance of up to 1.7 meters, the second does not exceed 50 cm.

The front matrix has a wide-angle lens. However, buyers notice that when opened on a computer, the face is too blurry, there is no sharpness. Everything else works great.

As for the video, its resolution is HD. 30 frames per second in daylight, at night - the figure drops to 16 fps. All owners say that the quality of the videos is terrible. You can focus the picture, the speed of the sensor is slow, but the accuracy is perfect. The sound in the video is clear, but there may be certain problems with the volume. The video on the front camera is also done in HD quality.

Performance and hardware platform

The phone runs on the Taiwanese MediaTek platform. Chipset 64-bit, operates on 4 cores. The clock frequency does not exceed 1 GHz. All owners note that even when using resource-intensive processes, the case does not heat up. You can learn about this from buyers in reviews of the ZTE Blade V7 Lite.

The interface has a good level of performance, and lags and slowdowns are not noticed. Users are advised to immediately set the minimum graphics settings when opening heavy games. Lighter utilities work just fine.

operating system

The phone runs on the sixth version of Google Android. A shell called Mifavor is installed on top. It is developed by ZTE.

The smartphone is equipped with several desktops. Reading reviews about the ZTE Blade V7 Lite phone, we can say that not everyone liked this idea. It is allowed to install icons of various applications on the tables. To open the settings, swipe from the bottom to the top. There you can choose a picture for the home screen, icon types, effects for scrolling through tables, as well as background shades. If you make a long tap, the widget menu will open.

Multimedia

A player is installed, which is standard for Google. Headphone volume is excellent. In reviews of the ZTE Blade V7 Lite Gold smartphone, they write that the sound is average. Buyers note that low frequencies lacks. The speaker received a good volume. At the same time, some tracks at high ranges noticeably wheeze. This model is equipped with a radio. More details below.

Sound

The model sounds uninteresting. This is confirmed by the characteristics and reviews of the ZTE Blade V7 Lite. Both in headphones and through the main speaker, playback is faded and without any colors. Distortion and noise effects are too audible. Only high frequencies are extended to a good level. The higher the volume, the worse the track will sound. Because of this, it is difficult to make out which instrument is being played. However, users also find advantages: the volume margin is large, and the external speaker has a sonority.

To play a melody, you need to go to the player. It is a standard utility from the Google Play service. If you need to improve the sound of the track, you can use a special system from Arkamys. Previously, it was installed in ZTE Blade smartphones. It has no additional options or features. It can only be activated. The settings do not change. The system player has a regular equalizer, the values \u200b\u200bof which are already preset. The speaker used for conversations has a muffled sound, but the timbre and speech of the interlocutor are understandable.

Built-in radio. You can record programs from the air. This menu works only with headphones that act as antennas. The recorder is not distinguished by sensitivity, it does not suppress noise. The auxiliary microphone is not built-in.

Comparison of ZTE Blade V7 and Lite version

Both phones are powered by a processor from MediaTek. However, the models are different. The V7 version is equipped with a 1.3 GHz 8-core chipset, while the Lite version operates with 4 components. Mali-T720 graphics system for both smartphones. RAM is also the same - only 2 GB. What about the built-in, then 16 GB for each smartphone. Supports work with a memory card.

The display is better on the V7 model. It has a diagonal of 5.2 inches. Resolution - 1920×1080 pixels. The camera is also the best in this modification. There is autofocus, the speed of the sensor is less than five seconds. Double flash. The matrix has a resolution of 13 megapixels. The Lite version has the best front camera. The previous modification has only 5 megapixels.

Both phones are running the sixth version of Android. The V7 modification does not have a fingerprint scanner. Both devices are not protected from moisture and dust.

The Light version has become very popular. This is due to the lower cost of devices. Initially, at the start of sales, the difference in price was about $ 100.

Conclusion

The phone is considered ambiguous. It also received mixed reviews. In general, there are all the necessary parameters and options for work. However, they are slow and sometimes slow down. The processor is too weak, the cameras, although they have good performance, are actually terrible, the front flash is practically useless, the fingerprint sensor is slow, the speaker volume is low, and the presence of a touch shell - all this is strongly disliked by buyers. Reviews about the ZTE Blade V7 Lite perfectly allow you to understand all the intricacies of the device.

If we talk about the advantages, then the matrix of the device is distinguished. Although it has a small brightness, it shows itself perfectly. The appearance of the device is not bad, the case is made of metal, and it also supports two SIM cards.

If a person wants to buy a quality device for 14 thousand rubles, then it is better to give preference to the Meizu M3S mini model. Buyers notice that for the money the phone performs well, the cameras are stronger, the battery life is longer, the body is made of better materials, and the fingerprint scanner is crisp and faster.

Of the rivals, Highscreen Tasty can be noted. It has 3 GB of RAM, good cameras and a lifetime. Got a great finish.

Another worthy competitor is Xiaomi Redmi 3. This gadget is famous for its long life.

In general, there are a large number of Chinese in this price category who have better characteristics.

Inexpensive model in a metal case with a fingerprint scanner

This spring, at the International Mobile Congress (MWC 2016) in Barcelona, the Chinese company ZTE introduced two of its new smartphones Blade V7 and Blade V7 Lite. From the names it is logical to conclude that the models are related to each other, and the prefix "Lite" in the second means "light", or, simply, a simplified version of the first. We will get acquainted with the older model a little later, but for now let's turn our attention to the younger Blade V7 Lite model. Everything is simple with her: she enters the Russian market without much delay, and under her own name. It is worth recalling that its immediate predecessor Blade V6, which we met under the name Blade X7, had several names at once, and was known under different names in different parts of the world. It should also be especially noted that our market was the first where the Blade V7 Lite was launched for sale. The smartphone is inexpensive, and in some ways it is even more interesting than the older model - this, at least, concerns the fingerprint scanner and the front camera with a higher resolution. All other details can be found in our ZTE review Blade V7 Lite.

Contents of delivery

ZTE Blade V7 Lite comes in a small rectangular box made of hard matte cardboard. The box is decorated simply, but neatly, the equipment does not correspond to its volume, there is more free space inside than necessary.

The kit consists of a power adapter (maximum output current 1 A), a USB connection cable, a wired stereo headset with in-ear rubber ear pads, and protective film on the screen, a key-paper clip and a thin booklet with documentation.

Appearance and usability

ZTE Blade V7 Lite quite logically repeats the design of its immediate predecessor Blade V6 (X7) and is less similar to the older V7 model of its subfamily, although, of course, there are intersections with it. The basis of the outer part of the case is a large metal cover made of aluminum (light aviation, as manufacturers like to call it). The lid is not solid: inserts made of plastic, painted to match the color of the metal, fall on part of the sides and ends, it is in them that all the connectors are installed.

The case of the ZTE Blade V7 Lite does not look more expensive than it actually is, it is quite simple, but the assembly and workmanship do not cause any particular complaints. Due to matte metal surfaces and a very small weight (only about 136 grams!) The medium-sized five-inch device is comfortably held in the hand and does not slip. It is convenient for carrying in any pockets of clothes, the corners are very rounded in terms of not allowing the body of the ZTE Blade V7 Lite to unpleasantly rest against the body.

The practical and, apparently, reliable body of the ZTE Blade V7 Lite is really well held in the hands, and its low weight is almost a record for a five-inch device. There are no glossy smooth surfaces on metal and plastic parts, these parts are not easily soiled. But the front glass, it seems, turned out to be devoid of a grease-repellent coating, since the screen is covered with fingerprints extremely quickly, and they are poorly rubbed off.

Ergonomics is also a little lame: the side buttons here, unlike most modern devices, are distributed on both sides. There is no convenience in this, because when you press one of the buttons, the other fingers of the hand rest against the opposite key and often also press it. You have to dodge and get used to holding the device with a slightly different grip, but why is all this needed? The keys themselves are quite pleasant to the touch, large, protruding, not too hard.

The card slot is located on the right side, the already familiar hybrid slot for two SIM cards or one SIM card plus a microSD memory card is used. Both slots support Nano-SIM, the farm itself is made of metal, it is installed and removed without problems and distortions. Hot swapping of cards is supported.

The front panel is completely covered with 2.5D-glass with sloping edges, the back wall also has rounded edges, but still there is a feeling that the previous Blade V6 (X7) was more sloping and rounded to the touch, here the edges are a little more rough, and the glass is rounded less than usual.

There is no LED indicator above the screen, sensors are standardly located there, front-camera and speaker. The selfie camera, by the way, on the ZTE Blade V7 Lite has its own LED flash, which is quite unusual for a device of such a low level.

The event indicator, however, is here, it is implemented in the form of a ring pulsing with light on the central touch button below the screen. The other two buttons on either side of it are simply marked with dots, so in the settings their purpose can be swapped, and this will not cause visual discomfort.

On the back side there is a main camera module with a single, but rather bright LED flash, as well as a fingerprint scanner. The camera module protrudes beyond the surface, so it is inconvenient to work with the device lying on a hard surface: it sways when touched. However, this does not really matter, since the fingerprint scanner on the lying device still cannot be reached, and without it the smartphone cannot be unlocked. The scanner is responsible for authorizing the owner by fingerprint, not only when unlocking the smartphone, but also when launching applications. It does not always work clearly, but erroneous recognitions are still rare. Touching the scanner does not unlock the smartphone, first you need to turn on the screen, and then touch the scanner area.

The main speaker is located on the back side, but this does not muffle the sound when the phone is on the table, because the speaker grill covers a slight bevel of the case. There are two gratings, but the sound comes out only through one of them, there are no stereo speakers.

At the bottom, there is a universal Micro-USB connector in the center, which supports connecting third-party devices in USB OTG (USB Host) mode. Nearby you can see the opening of the conversational microphone.

The hole of the second, auxiliary microphone could not be found - perhaps it is not in this smartphone at all. At the top end there was only a lone 3.5 mm jack for connecting headphones.

There are no fasteners for a strap on the case, the connectors are not covered with plugs, the device has not received protection from moisture and dust. As for the colors, the device is presented on the Russian market in only one color - light gray.

Screen

ZTE Blade V7 Lite is equipped with touch screen IPS combined with 2.5D glass with sloping edges. The physical dimensions of the screen are 62 × 110 mm, the diagonal is 5 inches, the resolution is 1280 × 720 pixels, the dot density is 294 ppi. The sidewalls around the screen are 4 mm wide, and the top and bottom margins are 16 mm each, the frame is quite wide. The manufacturer painted over the frame around the display in black, so that when the display is off, the display looks like “frameless”, but in reality the device is far from that.

The brightness of the display can be adjusted manually, there is also an automatic adjustment, among the sensors there is an ambient light sensor. Multi-touch technology supports up to 5 simultaneous clicks. When you bring the smartphone to your ear, the screen is locked using the proximity sensor. Double tapping on the glass wakes up the screen, it is also possible to activate it by drawing special characters.

A detailed examination using measuring instruments was carried out by the editor of the sections "Monitors" and "Projectors and TV" Alexey Kudryavtsev. Here is his expert opinion on the screen of the test sample.

The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface, resistant to scratches. Judging by the reflection of objects, the anti-glare properties of the screen are better than the screen of the Google Nexus 7 (2013) (hereinafter simply Nexus 7). For clarity, here is a photo in which a white surface is reflected in the off screens (on the left is Nexus 7, on the right is ZTE Blade V7 Lite, then they can be distinguished by size):

The screen on the ZTE Blade V7 Lite is a bit darker (brightness in photos is 106 versus 114 for the Nexus 7). The ghosting of reflected objects in the ZTE Blade V7 Lite screen is very weak, which indicates that there is no air gap between the screen layers (more specifically, between the outer glass and the LCD matrix surface) (OGS type screen - One Glass Solution). Due to the smaller number of borders (glass/air type) with very different refractive indices, such screens look better in conditions of strong external illumination, but their repair in case of cracked external glass is much more expensive, since the entire screen has to be changed. On the outer surface of the screen there is a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating (noticeably worse in efficiency than Nexus 7), so fingerprints are removed a little easier, and appear at a slower rate than in the case of ordinary glass.

With manual brightness control and with a white field displayed in full screen, the maximum brightness value was about 310 cd/m², the minimum was 10 cd/m². The maximum brightness is not high, however, given the excellent anti-reflective properties, readability even on a sunny day outdoors should be at an acceptable level. In complete darkness, the brightness can be reduced to a comfortable value. In the presence of automatic brightness control by light sensor (it is located to the right of the front camera eye). In automatic mode, when the ambient light conditions change, the screen brightness both increases and decreases. This function depends on the position of the brightness slider. If it is at 100%, then in complete darkness the auto-brightness function reduces the brightness to 90 cd / m² (a bit too much), in an artificially lit office (about 400 lux) it sets it to 190 cd / m² (normal), in a very bright environment (corresponding to lighting on a clear day outdoors, but without direct sunlight - 20,000 lux or a little more), the brightness increases to 310 cd / m² (to maximum a - it is necessary); if the adjustment is about 50%, then the values are as follows: 10, 105 and 310 cd / m² (ideal combination); regulator at 0% - 10, 15 and 310 cd / m² (the average value is underestimated, which is logical). It turns out that the auto-brightness function works absolutely adequately and allows the user to some extent customize their work to individual requirements. At any brightness level, there is no significant backlight modulation, so there is no screen flicker.

This smartphone uses an IPS type matrix. Micrographs show a typical IPS sub-pixel structure:

For comparison, you can see the gallery of microphotographs of screens used in mobile technology.

The screen has good viewing angles without significant color shift even at large deviations of the gaze from the perpendicular to the screen and without inverting shades. For comparison, here are photographs in which the same images are displayed on the screens of ZTE Blade V7 Lite and Nexus 7, while the brightness of the screens is initially set to about 200 cd / m², and the color balance on the camera is forcibly switched to 6500 K. A white field is perpendicular to the screens:

Note the good uniformity of brightness and color tone of the white field. And a test picture:

The color balance is slightly different, the color saturation is normal, the picture is a little dark. Now at an angle of about 45 degrees to the plane and to the side of the screen:

It can be seen that the colors have not changed much on both screens, but on the ZTE Blade V7 Lite, the contrast has decreased to a greater extent due to black bleaching and a strong reduction in image brightness. And the white box:

The brightness at an angle of the screens has decreased (at least 5 times, based on the difference in shutter speed), but the ZTE Blade V7 Lite screen is much darker. The black field, when deviated diagonally, is highlighted to an average degree and acquires a red-violet hue. The photos below demonstrate this (the brightness of the white areas in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the screens is the same!):

And from another angle:

With a perpendicular view, the uniformity of the black field is good (here the backlight brightness is set to maximum):

Contrast (approximately in the center of the screen) is high - about 1500:1. The response time for the black-white-black transition is 26 ms (14 ms on + 12 ms off). The transition between grayscale 25% and 75% (according to the numerical value of the color) and back in total takes 43 ms. The gamma curve constructed from 32 points with an equal interval according to the numerical value of the shade of gray did not reveal a blockage either in the highlights or in the shadows. The exponent of the approximating power function is 2.25, which is slightly higher than the standard value of 2.2, while the real gamma curve deviates little from the power dependence:

Due to the presence of dynamic adjustment of the brightness of the backlight in accordance with the nature of the displayed image (brightness tends to decrease on dark images), the resulting dependence of brightness on hue (gamma curve) does not correspond to the gamma curve of a static image, since the measurements were carried out with sequential grayscale output almost on the entire screen. For this reason, a number of tests - determining the contrast and response time, comparing black light at angles - we carried out when displaying special patterns with a constant average brightness, and not monochromatic fields in full screen. Let us show the dependence of brightness (vertical axis) on time when switching from a black field to a white field in half of the screen alternately, while the average brightness does not change and dynamic adjustment of the backlight brightness does not work (graph 50%/50% ). And the same dependence, but with alternate display of fields in full screen (chart 100% ), while the average brightness is already changing and the dynamic adjustment of the backlight brightness is working with might and main:

In general, such a non-switchable brightness correction does nothing but harm, since it reduces the visibility of gradations in the shadows in the case of dark images. In addition, this dynamic adjustment, when displaying any image other than a white field in full screen, significantly underestimates the brightness (which is not too much anyway), which worsens readability in bright light. Note that the adjustment is slow, so at least there are no annoying jumps in backlight brightness.

The color gamut is slightly different from sRGB:

The spectra show that the matrix filters moderately mix the components to each other:

As a result, the colors have more or less natural saturation. The balance of shades on the gray scale is average, since the color temperature is significantly higher than the standard 6500 K, however, the deviation from the blackbody spectrum (ΔE) is below 10, which is considered an acceptable indicator for a consumer device. At the same time, the color temperature and ΔE change little from shade to shade - this has a positive effect on the visual assessment of color balance. (The darkest areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since the color balance does not matter much there, and the measurement error of color characteristics at low brightness is large.)

This device has a fairly advanced system of profiles and settings, supposedly providing the ability to adjust the color balance, etc. It is called Mira Vision. However, attempts to correct the color balance with its help were unsuccessful, since the correction of the color temperature leads to the fact that the shade of the midtones changes, and the white point almost does not, it looks disgusting.

Let's summarize: the screen has a low maximum brightness, but it has excellent anti-glare properties, so the device can be used at least somehow outdoors even on a sunny summer day. For conditions of complete darkness, you can set a comfortable level of brightness. The mode with automatic brightness adjustment works adequately. The advantages of the screen include the absence of an air gap in the layers of the screen and flicker, as well as a color gamut close to sRGB. Significant disadvantages include a weak oleophobic coating, as well as non-switchable dynamic adjustment of the backlight brightness. Nevertheless, taking into account the importance of the characteristics for this particular class of devices, the screen quality can be considered at least above average.

Sound

The ZTE Blade V7 Lite sounds just as uninteresting as the rest of the Blade series models we've seen so far. Both in the headphones and in the main speaker, the sound is not only faded and colorless, with a predominance of only high frequencies, but also distortions and debris are noticeable. Individual instruments cannot be disassembled, the higher the volume, the higher the background noise. However, it is worth noting this time a rather large margin of volume of the main speaker and its overall sonority, the sound cannot be called deaf.

To play melodies, a regular player is used Google Play Music, and to improve the sound - the same built-in sound system of the French company Arkamys, which was previously present in ZTE Blade smartphones. There are no separate settings in it, there is only the ability to turn this feature on or off as a whole. The regular player has a familiar equalizer with preset values. In conversational dynamics, the interlocutor's speech, timbre and intonation remain recognizable, but the sound is muffled.

There is an FM radio with the ability to record programs from the air in the smartphone, it works only with connected headphones. The built-in voice recorder is not particularly sensitive, there is no noise reduction, and apparently, an auxiliary microphone is not provided here at all.

There is a suspicion that the main 13-megapixel camera here, like in the Blade X7, is equipped with an 8-megapixel sensor, and the maximum resolution is achieved using image interpolation. The lens has an aperture of f/2.0. Autofocus is quite fast, there is no electronic stabilization, video is recorded at a maximum resolution of only up to 720p. The maximum ISO value can be set manually up to 1600, also in manual mode, you can influence the brightness, contrast, sharpness, set the white balance and select the metering point manually. It is impossible to transfer control of camera settings to third-party applications using the Camera2 API, and there is also no possibility of recording pictures in RAW.

The camera can shoot video in maximum resolution up to 720p, there are no 4K and 60 frames / s modes. In general, the camera shoots video at an average level, the image is loose and full of artifacts, while the sound is recorded quite well, although there seems to be no noise reduction system here.

ZTE Blade V7 Lite Apple iPhone 6 Plus

The pictures have good sharpness in plans and across the field, although it drops a little towards the edges. The program works moderately, noise in the shadows can be found - both "cured" and unprocessed. Otherwise, the results are not outstanding at all, slightly above average, so the camera can be recommended for documentary shooting, nothing more.

Telephone part and communications

The smartphone supports most of the ranges used in Russia wireless networks 2G GSM, 3G WCDMA, and LTE Cat.4. The smartphone supports FDD LTE in all three bands most common among Russian operators Band 3, 7 and 20. In practice, with the SIM card of the MTS operator, it was not possible to achieve high speeds in LTE from the device in the same test places where other smartphones demonstrate twice as much speed in the test program. Full list supported frequencies is as follows:

  • GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
  • WCDMA/HSPA+ networks (850/900/2100 MHz)
  • LTE networks(1800/2100/2300/2600/800/850/900MHz)

The rest of the network capabilities of the smartphone are also modest: there is no NFC, like Hot Knot; only one Wi-Fi band (2.4 GHz) is supported, there is Wi-Fi Direct, you can organize a wireless access point via Wi-Fi channels or Bluetooth 4.0. The Micro-USB 2.0 connector supports connecting external devices in USB OTG mode.

The navigation module works only with GPS (with A-GPS), the device does not see domestic Glonass satellites. The first satellites during a cold start are detected within a minute. The smartphone is equipped with a magnetic field sensor, on the basis of which the digital compass of navigation programs functions.

The smartphone supports two SIM cards in Dual SIM Dual Standby mode, when both cards can be in active standby mode, but cannot work at the same time - there is only one radio module. A SIM card in any slot can work with 3G / 4G networks, however, only one of the cards can operate in this mode at the same time. To change the assignments of card slots, you do not need to swap places - this can be done directly from the phone menu. You can assign the desired card for calls or SMS in advance in the settings, or using the pop-up menu right during the call, if this has not been done in advance.

OS and software

The machine uses a 32-bit software platform as the system Google Android version 6.0 installed on a 64-bit SoC. There is no own shell here as such, only the external design of the theme has been changed, icons and the navigation bar have been redrawn, and a separate menu for installed apps. Added extensive support for gestures, including body swipes, screen swipes, and various character inscriptions.

preinstalled third party programs not so much: yes file manager, an alternative to UC Browser, has a set of applications for working with office documents WPS Office and the ubiquitous Clean Master. Access to individual applications and even files can be restricted using fingerprint authorization.

Performance

The ZTE Blade V7 Lite hardware platform is based on a quad-core 64-bit single-chip system (SoC) MediaTek MT6735P. The SoC configuration includes four Cortex-A53 processor cores, operating here at a frequency of up to 1 GHz. The Mali-T720 video accelerator is responsible for graphics processing. The amount of RAM is 2 GB, and about 10 GB of internal memory is available in the device for the needs of the user. It is possible to install microSD cards up to 32 GB, but in practice our 128 GB Transcend Premium microSDXC UHS-1 test card was recognized by the device. The machine also supports connecting external devices to USB port in OTG mode.

We have studied the capabilities of the MediaTek MT6735 level platform well, this SoC belongs to the entry level, and here the maximum operating frequency of the CPU cores is also reduced to 1 GHz. Accordingly, one should not expect any impressive results in tests from the device. In practice, the capabilities of the MediaTek MT6735P are enough to work confidently in most standard applications, but it is not intended for demanding games. In Modern Combat 5, stuttering took place, the game World of Tanks runs more smoothly (at about 35-38 fps with subsidence to 29 fps). You can play with a strong desire, but you still can’t get high graphics settings with such a screen and such a platform.

Testing in latest versions complex tests AnTuTu and GeekBench 3:

For convenience, we have summarized all the results obtained by us when testing a smartphone in the latest versions of popular benchmarks in tables. Several other devices from various segments are usually added to the table, also tested on similar latest versions of benchmarks (this is done only for a visual assessment of the obtained dry numbers). Unfortunately, within the framework of one comparison, it is impossible to present the results from different versions of benchmarks, so many worthy and relevant models remain “behind the scenes” due to the fact that they once passed the “obstacle course” on previous versions of test programs.

Testing the graphics subsystem in 3DMark gaming tests,GFXBenchmark, and Bonsai Benchmark:

When testing in 3DMark for the highest performing smartphones, it is now possible to run the application in Unlimited mode, where the rendering resolution is fixed at 720p and VSync is disabled (due to which the speed can rise above 60 fps).

Browser cross-platform tests:

As for benchmarks for evaluating the speed of the javascript engine, you should always take into account the fact that the results in them depend significantly on the browser in which they are launched, so that the comparison can be truly correct only on the same OS and browsers, and this possibility is not always available when testing. In the case of Android OS, we always try to use Google Chrome.

thermal images

Below is a thermal image of the back surface obtained after 10 minutes of running a battery test in the GFXBenchmark program (closer to white - higher temperature):

It can be seen that the heating is a little more localized in the upper left part of the device, which apparently corresponds to the location of the SoC chip. According to the heat chamber, the maximum heating was only 34 degrees (at an ambient temperature of 24 degrees), which is very little.

Video playback

To test the "omnivorous" when playing video (including support for various codecs, containers and special features, such as subtitles), we used the most common formats, which make up the bulk of the content available on the Web. Note that for mobile devices it is important to have support for hardware video decoding at the chip level, since it is most often impossible to process modern versions using processor cores alone. Also, do not expect everything from a mobile device to decode everything, since the leadership in flexibility belongs to the PC, and no one is going to challenge it. All results are summarized in a table.

According to the test results, the test subject was not equipped with all the necessary decoders that are needed for the full playback of most of the most common multimedia files on the network, in this case, sound ones. To successfully play them, you will have to resort to the help of a third-party player - for example, MX Player. True, you also need to change the settings in it and manually install additional custom codecs, because now this player does not officially support the AC3 audio format.

Format container, video, sound MX Video Player Regular video player

BDRip 1080p MKV, H.264 1920×1080, 24fps, AC3 video plays fine, no sound video plays fine, no sound

Further testing of video playback performed Alexey Kudryavtsev.

We did not find an MHL interface, as well as Mobility DisplayPort, in this smartphone, so we had to limit ourselves to testing the output of video files on the screen of the device itself. To do this, we used a set of test files with an arrow and a rectangle moving one division per frame (see “Methodology for testing video signal playback and display devices. Version 1 (for mobile devices) Red marks indicate possible problems associated with the playback of the respective files.

According to the frame output criterion, the quality of video files playback on the screen of the smartphone itself is good, since frames (or groups of frames) can (but are not required) to be displayed with more or less uniform alternation of intervals and almost without frame drops. Except for files with 60 fps in which case a lot of frames are skipped. The reason is an atypically low screen refresh rate of about 49.5 Hz, so even files with 50 fps are played either with a periodic skip of one frame, or a little slower. When playing video files with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels (720p) on a smartphone screen, the image of the video file itself is displayed exactly along the border of the screen, one to one in pixels, that is, in its original resolution. The brightness range displayed on the screen corresponds to the standard range of 16-235 - all gradations of shades are displayed in the shadows and in the highlights.

Battery life

Fixed accumulator battery, installed in ZTE Blade V7 Lite, has a capacity of 2500 mAh. In the absence of a productive platform or a high-resolution energy-intensive screen, the smartphone, as expected, demonstrates pretty good autonomy results. But you need to be aware that this is achieved due to low performance and low graphics settings, the device is weak in multimedia tasks. The smartphone quietly survives until evening charging, in general, it can last about a day and a half under normal operation. Energy saving mode the smartphone is available, but testing, as usual, was carried out without using such functions.

Continuous reading in the Moon + Reader program (with a standard, light theme) at the minimum comfortable brightness level (brightness was set to 100 cd / m²) with auto scrolling lasted a little less than 13.5 hours until the battery was completely discharged, and with continuous video viewing in high quality(720p) with the same brightness level via home wifi network the device almost reached the 9 o'clock mark. In 3D gaming mode, the smartphone worked for more than 5.5 hours.

The smartphone battery is fully charged from the standard network adapter in about three hours with a current of 0.9 A at a voltage of 5 V.

Outcome

ZTE Blade V7 Lite, as already mentioned at the very beginning, first went on sale in the Russian market. Here it is priced at official retail at 14 thousand rubles (but you can find offers from 11 thousand). In principle, against the background of the price tags of modern top-end smartphones, such a cost cannot be called high. However, this is not at all the case when we can say that a smartphone is extremely interesting to purchase at this price. No, the ZTE Blade V7 Lite is pretty modest in all respects. technical parameters and capabilities of a device with a weak or at best average screen, cameras, sound, performance, communication capabilities. The smartphone did not even shine with the level of autonomy, although in general “hardy” budget devices with low performance (precisely due to this low performance) are not uncommon.

What really cannot be taken away from the ZTE Blade V7 Lite is the body that is pleasant to the touch and practical to use, mostly made of metal. Also, one of the advantages of the model is the presence of a fingerprint scanner, which is extremely useful for people who care about the safety of personal data. But on this, in general, all the pluses end. ZTE Blade V7 Lite is a real workhorse without a hint of multimedia focus. This is a low-performance, but reliable smart phone of a large industrial giant of the industry, officially presented with us, and therefore supported by warranty conditions, which is also important.
